You'll be fine engine wise, only thing beside actual drivability would be trans fluid condition and just check that every 20k and you'll be fine. Sounds like you have it well in hand:burnrubber:

I can't say how durable these newer 4's are compared to the older stuff back in the 70's and 80's, but i use to scream the guts out of my old 4 cyl.'s towing stuff...by 90k miles they were toast. Imo, lots of rpm is not a good thing....maybe necessary but not good.

The engine will be fine. But towing anything at 80 mph sustained is just plain stupid.

I kinda think that's true too, things can change so fast while driving and I always am so sad when things could have been done safer when things go wrong.
Safety should always be number 1.

Safety officers in full force today I see. The trailer is rated for 2700 pounds. It has a 3500 pound axel with full size 15 inch tires that are rated for 80mph. My main concern was my personal curiosity about the rpms

It gets more real when you see a fullsize truck pulling a trailer pull a 90 degree turn and and up parked on a barbed wire fence right in front of you just after passing you.

Risk your own safety all you want, I couldn't care less. Endangering others because you want to save 40 minutes is considered a dick move though.

It seems that you didn’t read the post. If you’re capable of reading it, I suggest doing so. I’m not a dumbass. I tow for a living. I’m not doing anything dangerous. I’m well within the specifications of my equipment.

The truck that went off the road in front of me had nearly the exact same trailer configuration, but had a bigger truck. Still lost control.

Speed is the problem here, not specifications.

I'm not going to push this any more, either you'll get it, or you won't.

Ok, so the speed limit is 80. The trailer is rated for 80. No , I’m not getting it.

If the truck can’t handle towing a 800 pound trailer in speeds excess of 65 then yes looks like I’ll have to do that

Towing at 80 is dumb and dangerous.

In the interest of helping you with your question though, I spun 5200 RPM for a really long time climbing 7,8 and 10% grades in WV while towing. That was probably 30k miles ago, so 3800 isn't even breathing hard. I do have the 6 to your 4, but same thoughts still apply. Use S5 and ETC, or even S4 and ETC and go.

This gets repeated here a ton, but just to keep it real here, the manual doesn't actually say that. It says S5, not S4. Why? Beats me.

If you have where it says S4, show me because I have looked through various years manuals and have yet to actually find this.

Sounds like you've answered your own question about the 3800 RPM.

I already know it’s well within specs. I’m wondering about long term wear. Fuck it’s hard to start a conversation with y’all

My 4 cylinder (2TR-FE, same as yours) has 225,000 miles. I don't tow, but I do load the fuck out of it (easily to max payload) and drive it over the Sierras multiple times a year (50, 80, 88, 89, 108, 120, 49, you name it). I also have increased diameter tires and stock gears (so engine has to work even harder). Much of my time is spent in 3rd gear with the pedal nearly to the floor or to the floor. My truck spends more time at wide open throttle than any vehicle I've ever driven, I truly do take it to its maximum. I do not worry about it at all. I have been doing this regularly for the last 95,000 miles since I got the truck with 130k. I change oil every 5k miles with synthetic and keep up on tranny and diff oils.
