Bed extender for kayaks

I'm looking for a bed extender for my short bed that would adjust enough in height to sit level with my bed storage/platform. I need a solution to haul kayaks for short trips without loading them on the roof every time. Anyone with a similar setup?

 

Answered my own question. Boonedox T-Bone XL looks like the way to go.

 

Boonedox is way pricey, you can get a good adjustable bed extender for $60-$100.

 

How high will that one adjust?

 

I have a Boonedox T-Bone for my 2 Kayaks 13' & 13.5', Lime and adjustable in height and holds 300 Lbs. Was more expensive but the curved arm allows clearance when going up or down a steep bank.

I wish I knew if the regular t-bone would work with my bed storage. The xl version is more expensive and no free shipping deals. I'll dig into it some more.

 

If I get a chance I can install mine and send you some measurements on it's height. I did not buy the pads for the round t-bar, the end is 2.0" in diameter. There is 2 small pieces of blue foam that come in the shipping box on each end like below. Also a contact at Boonedox's could probably answer your questions.

Appreciate it. Yeah they recommended the XL to me but it's possible that the regular will work too and I can save a little cash.

No problem, your welcome! I was busy outside today installing my LED reverse bulbs and OEM bed lighting kit. Measured the Boonedox bed extender first and finished up the day by installing my Spiker hood struts.

I use the Yakima Long Arm. It adjusts from bed level to the top of my diamond back cover.

Will the Boonedox carry 2 kayaks?

 

it will. my T-bone just showed up and i did a test fit at work. the thing is pretty behemoth. storing it will be a pain. i'll probably break it apart for the long storage sessions, but i plan on fishing thru the winter..so we shall see.

if your two kayaks fit in the bed it will fit the T-bone. virtually the same width. the "second" hole position put it damn near exact with my tailgate with respect to elevation. my kayak is fairly wide, so it will run down the middle.

I just went through this with my truck. I was set on the T-Bone extender, but started looking at the Yakima Long Arm because it offered more adjustability for the height. I bought the Yakima. It is much lighter than it looks and does the job perfectly. I just bought pads to cover the bars for cushioning. I put a utility type hook on the wall of the garage to store the rack when not using. I also use a thick cable lock on the extender, when attached to the hitch. I don't want it to disappear off my parked truck, while I'm out on the rivers.
