Isn't a Land Cruiser better than a Tacoma?

It has a solid front axle for off roading.
    THREE lockers, stock.
    bulletproof inline 6 engine.
They're cheaper too. Like around $7k.

    Only drawback is 12-15mpg.

this one is even teaching a Jeep how to Jeep

That inline 6 isn't as bullet proof as the internet makes it.

I also don't fit in the 80 100 series. Great truck with loads of capabilities, but not an end all.

We are also limited in Canada, we didn't get nearly as many 100's and never saw the 200's. Only lexus variants.

Axles F&R are different widths, the radius arm set up is odd, RT hand drop Tcase that is constant 4wd hence the center locker to lock the torque bias system, those I6 are getting hard to find if you really grenade one and rebuilds are $$$$, ATs are $$$$, Rusty and rotted, lots of little things to go wrong at their age for a 7g vehicle, etc.

Oh. So the same as a taco t case? Or are they also AWD and then lock into 4x4?

They are AWD and torque bias the power you lock them so that they are like a normal Tcase. Closer to a sequoia or v8 4runner set up but with a lockable tcase.

Just the relentless march of time. The newest 80 series LC sold in North America would still be 23 years old.

I needed the truck part more than the comfort part. But I do look forward to the day when I can buy my wife a land cruiser!!

Many have been said above. I Just sold my 80 because prices were so high on them. Right now, they are over priced IMO. They are the "cool" car for the overlander crowd right now.

    Negatives:
Market price is insane high on them.

Age... dont care how well a car was taken care of. Time takes its toll.

It takes a good amount of labor to keep them on the road. (ex. knuckle rebuilds)

OEM Part prices are at a premium.

The 3F sucks. The 1FZ is decent. Both suck at highway speeds.

    Positives:
    Japanese made quality

    Solid front axle

They are tanks. Super solid frame and drive train.

factory option for front and rear locker

    lots of aftermarket support

I've been on the fence about possibly putting my 2010 up for sale this spring and getting an 80/LX450. They're both very capable vehicles but they both also have their down sides

I can’t stomach the mpg. It’s brutal. A long road trip would hurt.
