I got about 50 miles on tonight to break it in. And my first impressions are positive. It's not a racecar and not a massive v8 but I no longer say "come on baby you can make it"

Going up hills the trucks will actually maintain speed in 6th gear with the occasional drop to 5th whereas before it would drive in 4th and drop to 3rd trying to maintain 70.

I know the tune needs more time to learn. Ovtune usually says 500 miles so fingers crossed it gets even better since the transmission is still figuring its life out.

More info to come. I'll be towing my popup camper up to the mountains this weekend too

I still have high hopes for the SC, but to be honest, it sounds like you're describing the driving characteristics of the OVT 2.0. Hopefully Magnuson delivers on their product with a more refined tune.

for roughly $80-90 per HP if the stock has 220 at rear wheels and this gives you around 300 at rear wheels, thats a lot of money for 90 HP...just saying...IMO

What would be interesting is to get a 2nd gen to go against a 3rd gen both with the supercharger and see how they compare. I think it would help in peoples decision. The 2nd gen s/c has great performance.

I went from OVT 2.0 to SC.

Truck also has 4.88 gears, 33" tires, topper, RTT, and steel bumpers. So a fair bit of extra weight and awful aerodynamics

Yeah. My great uncle Angus left me $6500 in his will. I was going to just set it on fire, but instead I think I'll buy a supercharger to make my Tacoma not as powerful as a Tundra.

Do you have the ability to measure transmission temps while towing?

TBH, it costs $0 to make your Taco less powerful than a Tundra. That $6.5k is closing the gap though ;)

This reminds of when I didn't know how gear lock worked and I was in 6th trying to go up a hill, even with full throttle it made absolutely no gains, just kept losing speed until I kicked it out of the gear lock mode. You really need to be in 4th if accelerating hard at 60mph. The thing with Toyota ECU logic is that it will only allow you to output so much torque at a certain speed/rpm/gear so the supercharger is probably not making much difference as its being limited by the ECU itself.

Isn't this in theory what the tune is supposed to fix? I thought at the very least Mat was able to fix this with his tunes. Forgive my ignorance if this isn't right but I'm watching like 4 FI threads and there's about 8 trillion pages of tune development so it gets hard to keep it all straight.

Yes. The Full OVT tunes do killer work in the bottom end.

Although, what has said is that, while Maggy is using vF Pro Tuner software to create the tune, they were starting from Stock, not OVT 2.0.

So for all the time that they were teasing the S/C on social media, they had nothing for what is arguably the most important part of the package. I have zero doubt the HW is good, but the tune is more important, just like it was for the N/A Taco. A 2mb file transforms the experience.
