    Thanks!

BTW, the bike is back down with issues  , so I got to drive the Taco with intake accelerator today. There might just be something there? I need a couple more drives though.

I am on my third oil change, no issues at all. It was not too tight from the factory and for subsequent oil changes (I do them myself) I use a torque wrench so I haven't had any issues with over or under tightening. No plans to change it.

    Good point! :hattip:

The linked one is similar to the one that I used on our previous cartridge car. Never a problem other than having to turn the tool in the opposite direction to get it to come off.

I got this one for the Taco when I did the 5k change:

The dealer put mine on gorilla tight.

Now that I'm doing it myself, it's never a problem. The Oring provides the seal, there's no reason at all to keep hammering on the housing once it's screwed all the way in.

I bought used at 32K and do my own changes. The first one was with the stock cap and it was so tight I felt like it was going to break coming off. I installed it and torqued properly and had no issue for the next change, but as part of the process I did swap to the metal cap and the same filter as @tonered here.

I for one feel it adds at least +5HP but I am sure a properly installed plastic OEM cap would hold up if you do your own work.

It seems like the source of our problem is the techs?

This was a big issue on the motorcycle side. Several minor shortcuts that they would take on work totalling well over $1k (not me!), and just a few miles down the road, failure. The stories were shocking.

I wonder why some Toyotas come with a plastic cap and some like my sister-in-law’s Avalon come with a metal cap.

Potentially, the grade of car in the lineup? No matter what we think, the Taco is the base model truck. The Avalon and Highlander are higher on the pecking order.

Never any issues with mine other than the last oil change where I couldn't get the bottom plug to come out separate to drain the housing- instead the drain was turning the entire housing. Just took it off with that and made a mess. Got it to break loose on the work bench.

I really hate not being able to just spin a filter off and spin a new one on. "It's better for the environment" is fake news if you ask me. It's still going to the landfill- just not the metal of a spin off filter. And even one could say throwing the metal into a landfill is kind of recycling- metal came from the ground, and it's going back into the ground

    Thanks!

I suppose that is the other big benefit to the cartridge. There's a lot more material and processes that go into a spin on. They are certainly faster to work with, but in my garage, most all projects are a three beer minimum. :D

You would think a single part for all engines could be specd and they would be all for that money saving...but no let's digress to crappy shift logic, removing bed cubbies, glovebox shelves, and the ill-fated MT. Oh wait, were were talking about oil caps....sorry...

That is one the big questions that I have for those in the automotive eng field. Like the costs to make the two different side mirror types or four different shift knobs. It seems totally against the whole lean manufacturing bit that Toyota pressed for so long. Esp when easy stuff like an MT DCLB is non-existent.

If it was a visual item "maybe" I could see the need. I for one would certainly support a chrome version.

Edit: then they could add another finish option to the blackout pks and charge $499 vs only $399

That's the thing though. The less functional stuff still has huge costs associated with it from the tooling and inventory sides. Basically looking at a 20yr commitment for every part and molds wear over time. Two engines and 2.5 different drivelines aren't teabag, but all these little bits could easily be applied SR through Pro.

That is the other one, chrome. All that extra processing for something that generally looks better body colored or black. You'd think that all Japanese automakers would have learned from the Acura debacle. 50% drop in sales . . .

    upload_2020-10-2_12-12-56.jpg

But then, Lexus is still holding fast to the fugly Predator look. o_O

    And, the new M3 / M4 is :rofl::rofl::rofl: :bananadead:

The drain plug in the bottom of my filter is hopelessly stuck so I just put the extension in there and change it that way.
