Was hunting a bowl shaped grown in clear cut after work the other night, just catching the last hour of daylight, saw 7 does in total, which is encouraging. The rut won’t be going for another month so the bucks should come in to the area.

Craziest thing happened, I was hunkered down next to a big stump at sundown when I heard what initially sounded like a drunk woman yelling, which had me wondering “where the hell did she come from?”

I quickly realized I was hearing a cougar kill a deer 150 yards away. We heard the crashing chase and screaming. We moved in as quickly as possible as my buddy has a cougar tag and we always want to take a cat out of a good deer area as they can wipe out a population over a few months.

Heard the growling and deer death huffs and puffs from 10 yards but it was in a real thick section of cat tails and it was getting dark quickly and we had only a couple yards visibility.

We called it but my buddy went back with his dog the next day and found cougar tracks but no deer. The dog was more focused on bear scent as the area has a big boar we indeed to remove as well.

Sorry for this rant but I have to tell somebody.

Where my wife and I hunt, I know the adjoining landowner. He doesn’t hunt, his nephew does though. I’ve never met him.....until just now.

Guy comes in the store and gets some snacks, says he’s headed hunting. I said good luck. He said I need it, y’all kill all the big deer and it makes me sick.

I said you must be Zane’s nephew? He said yeah. I said I’m Shane, nice to meet you.

We get to talking and he’s still being negative. He says I do all this work and spend all kinds of money and y’all wind up killing the deer. I said you don’t think we don’t put a lot of time in and spend money too? Oh and we hunt, a lot.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

I don’t get how people think others just show up and shoot YOUR deer. I’ve never shot a deer that belonged to someone else, they’ve always been where I had permission to be :D

Where I’m from, the Crown owns all wildlife, which is to say the people of British Columbia. No person owns a deer even if it’s lived it’s whole life on their property.

Hell you have permission to hunt it, and you watch and maintain it, that’s crazy he has to be negative. Will post my rant separate

So we saved and waited to buy a adjoining tract of land to our home, we went back and forth two years to get this property and last December we got it, been doing a ton of work to get a plot opened and cleaned and I was walking the trail to the back and a neighbor 5 acres over has a stand 100 ft from his back fence that over looks our new tract. It is on his property and not shooting in to ours but man if it’s a bad shot and runs. We put up a lot of posted no trespassing signs. Not a friendly neighbor. Not against hunting on your own property but don’t want any trespassing. I always ask the owner before walking on another’s land. Hope it doesn’t come to a problem
