Mud flaps....are they worth it?

Been considering a purchase of either Husky or Weathertech mud flaps for my fairly new 2020 2WD SR5. No off roading but will travel some rough mountain roads with wet areas and plenty of small rocks and stones when I trout fish. Will they help that much with dings and mud and which brand performs the best? Thanks in advance

 

If not offroading, I'd purchase them. They help with underbody rock chips and keep you from sending a rock back to hit your fellow drivers. I also think they look good.
Would NOT get Toyota OEM if offroading (Hard plastic, dont bend). They hang low, do not bend and sooner or later you will team them off.
I have had them on my Suburban for ten years, no issues.

Would like to hear ideas for offroad mudguards. Bendable rubber and maybe shorter

 

Always, you can even check locally for take off's from guys who removed them.

I wont drive a truck without flaps, but I do gravel roads and the debris winds up inside the cabin without flaps.

I had rockbloks like that on my subaru, they were super rigid, it was good and bad. I liked how snow cleaned off them.

 

I like the stiffness of them. Stiff enough to withstand wind, flexible enough to bend over obstacles.

I have a fairly long gravel driveway that empties to a 4-lane highway, and there's always several pieces of gravel stuck in the tires that get flung out when getting up to speed. My old truck didn't have flaps, and the paint on the rocker panels got beat to hell rather quickly. If you're any sort of a clean freak about your Taco, flaps also help minimize road-spray when wet or encountering random puddles.

 

I’d say mud flaps are certainly worth it. I bought a set off eBay for my 2018. Unfortunately I don’t remember the brand (not OEM for sure)



Years ago, I bought a 5 lug 2nd gen. It had no mud flaps and after 3 owners and 125k of use, the rocker panels were chipped badly and beginning to rust. It was used for highway driving all its life since it was a street truck and had a 2” suspension drop kit.

 

For the op's use, the weathertecs or oem would be great.

I wouldn't go crazy buying some expensive flaps.

 

Might want to consider step tubes or running boards in addition to the mudflaps. Either would give you a lot more protection to the side panels. My wife and I drive on eight miles of gravel roads daily. We have had five Tacomas in the past 30 years. All equipped equipped with mudflaps and boards or step tubes....almost no rock chips on the lower panels. Prior to installing boards or tubes, the lower panels on our previous trucks that had only mudflaps got pretty well chewed up by the gravel. (We old guys know stuff. Learned it the hard way.)

 

Surprised all tacoma don't come with mud flaps....here its illegal on the roads to drive a vehicle without them.

 

I had Toyota put on the OEM mud flaps. I didn't even consider them for reducing dings or dents, I purchased them because I feel people that have trucks have a responsibility not to throw rocks up on the freeway at other people's windshields. I've seen that happen too many times due to so many trucks running without them. Especially the ones with the offset rims where the tires stick out (besides that looking silly as hell). It's called being conscientious toward other drivers and their property. So yes, get them, definitely. I think mine cost a whole $100 at the dealer.

Just did a few miles on gravel roads this weekend. Tons of rocks stuck in the tires, these saved me

 

12 Tacomas in, I've ran them and not ran them, run them if you care about your paint even if you are 99% on road. I can't take anyone serious who claims their rocker panels, etc. are flawless without them....sureeeee bud and 285s don't rub on stock setup either, lol.
