Since mine is an 06 it better be paid off. And now that Toyota replaced the frame hopefully it will be paid off for a while longer.

lol! at that age who cares! around that age i bought my first Lexus with a note of $719 a month. First day I drove it to work, the girl i had a crush on jumped in and said take me home! Thats just one of many stories the 65 year old with $190,000 in his pocket would trade his $190,000 for if he could, lol!

lol! No 2nd gen has ever lost 30% as soon as you drive it off the lot. in fact, 2nd gen, jeep, honda share the top 3 resale values every year, of course excluding the #1 in resale value across the board... FJ! If you buy a 2015 today, you will pay more that 70% original purchase price.

Ahh, the ignorance of youth. The 65 year old likely has stories that would make you blush and has the $190,000.

I got married at 18. I don’t care about impressing other people at a stop light I won’t ever see again.

I wish I had the money I wasted on vehicles back. I’d probably be within $30k of paying my home off or $60k ahead in my retirement right now.

I’d be a little bit closer to my dream of owning a brewery with my spouse.

There's other vehicles that exist, not just 2nd gen Tacomas. You also seem to forget that buying a new, financed vehicle will also come with higher insurance, financing costs and maintenance, that's apart from the depreciating part of the underlying asset. But you prove my point, sometimes it's not worth the time and effort trying to explain basic finance. You go ahead and finance new vehicles because you will be able to sell it for 70% what you paid for it (maybe), the economy needs people like you.

Bought mine used (104k) in June for $17k cash to replace a brand new car my wife totalled. We were in the middle of COVID and I needed a replacement but wanted something that I wouldn't lose money on if/when I chose to flip when my new-new car came in. Private sellers weren't an option as I needed a dealer that could transfer my plates as DMV was on lockdown so I found this on a used car lot. I've fallen in love with the Taco so when the new car arrives we're selling our 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring and keeping the Taco.

I love this thread, lots of good money info here. I to paid cash last year on a 2013 and I believe it's worth the same or more now!!! Thats a great thing about these trucks is the slow slow depreciation, especially buying used.

Things are just things. Don’t go through life thinking that you have to purchase your pleasures.

    Just as an aside:

Plenty of girls had no problems hopping into my $1500 ‘89 Ford ranger.

Anyone who wanted a ride home with me just because of what I drove, wouldn't be getting a ride home with me. Pay for a cab.

Life is too short for shallow people.

My mom passed away and left me just enough to pay it off. Nice final gift from her. I’ll keep it forever if I can.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel and LOVE it. It's rated for 26/30 mpg. I checked today and I'm at 27.

    Cheers

I looked at one of those back in the day and ended up getting a X5 , I wish I would have gotten the Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel instead. The new jeep wrangler eco diesel or hybrid looks pretty awesome but I need a truck.
