    I bought a avid bed bar system when I ordered my original tent. I had originally ordered the gen2 smittybilt standard tent. I ended up not being able to get it in time for my overland trip and got the new hardshell overland tent and it’s to long for the bed and need something thy will allow it to go over the roof some. What rack system is tall enough to allow a tent to go over the roof.

    Have you tried looking into the Thule and Yakima racks? Some are adjustable and I believe all will extend past the cab.

    I’ll check into them. But I would really prefer a full rack I have traction boards a high lift and all that I would like to mount

    I not knocking using the truck mounted tent, but I don't understand its purpose. I don't think it would be any warmer/dryer than a traditional ground tent so I can't figure out why one would use it. Maybe it gives you some bear protection, but don't think that is really a factor.

    In my experience, I have tented for many years using a ground tent in many locales and in all weathers, including cold (20-30F) trips. In fact, when using the fly I my body heat does actually heat up the inside and it is warmish when I get up on a cold morning. In all the trips I have taken I have only had to leave the tent when lightning was a problem and then sat in the truck for a while. I had one trip where it poured for 3 days and did get some water penetration, but as it was the last morning it was not a real issue. I have a an old Kelty Gunnison which still is going strong, but I do Scotchguard the rain fly and tent bottom every other season.

    I don't understand why you felt the need to justify why you think ground tents are better when OP asked about a full height bed rack.

    @Dorman MGM Tacoma several vendors that support TW sell full height racks

    @upTOPoverland sells their Truss https://www.uptopoverland.com/colle...top-alpha-tacoma-truss?variant=29445797445692

    Bay Area Metal Fab has a bed rack that will fit your RTT http://www.bayareametalfab.com/2005-to-2015-TACOMA-Bed-Rack_p_30.html

    @SOS CONCEPTS has a few options https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sos-bedracks-and-besttop-rack.643690/

    I guess that reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Read the first two sentences in my post (Those are the words strings which start with a capitol letter and end with a period). Nowhere does it say that I am knocking the use of the truck tent. In fact, it says that first. As I tent often I am curious to see if there is an advantage to the truck tent. If there is, maybe I will look into it as my Kelty (as noted in my post) is old and may need to be replaced next year

    It's interesting that you bring up reading comprehension when you answered a question that wasn't asked. And it's crazy how the words that come after the first set also matter.

    I not knocking using the truck mounted tent, - A positive statement
    but I don't understand its purpose. - A negative statement

    I don't think it would be any warmer/dryer than a traditional ground tent so I can't figure out why one would use it. - A negative statement

    Maybe it gives you some bear protection, but don't think that is really a factor. - A neutral statement

    If you would like to discuss the pros and cons of groud tents and roof top tents there are several threads that do just that, this is not one of them

    I have a Warfab bedrack that sits about 2"-3" above the cab on my 2013 DCLB. I had them build it taller than what they (did) offer about a year ago.

    I am going back to a topper so it will be up for sale along with my RoofNest clamshell tent, but can sell separately.

    I'm in Northern Colorado if you are interested.

    Go with the KB VOODOO rack. They have an option to make it so the tent will hang over the cab. I have the smittybilt XL and it hangs of just a tad but there way more than enough room if it were longer.

    Got to agree with this, he wasn't asking for any info on the difference between the two tents, he was asking about a "rack"

    I can't find any good pics of the 22" rack at the moment, but this is what our 18" ALUMAX looks like on the company beater.
