2016 TRD Offroad. Never tried the "crawl" setting before. While messing around in my yard in 4 Hi, I hit the crawl control for shts and giggles to see what it does. Sounded like the whole bottom of my truck was going to fall on the ground. My coffee grinder makes less noise. What's going on? This is my first Tacoma, but I've had many 4X4's before. Am I doing something wrong?

You said 4hi you have to be in 4lo to engage cc or it might automatically go 4lo if you don’t I’ve never tried because manual says to be in 4lo. Maybe this could be your issue?

Probably the brake actuator making noise. I believe that's how they utilize crawl control. Also are you doing this on sand or something loose? Please hope you aren't doing it on solid pavement.

If it sounds like you hit the self destruct button, and it is slowly disassembling itself... It's operating normally.

If you want to see it in action there are YouTube videos that show it and you can clearly hear it sounds like a fork in a garbage disposal.

When I got my Tacoma back in August of 2019, I had never driven a 4x4 in my life. Because I did not have anyone in my life who also owned a 4x4 truck, I took a beginners off road class at Raush Creek PA. I was the only truck with a collection of Jeeps and 4runners. We all had ham radios so everyone could hear what the instructor wanted us to do. At one particularly muddy collection of holes and underwater rocks, all the jeep were struggling and needed multiple attempts with the exception of one jeep on 37 inch tires.

Then my turn came. Over the ham I heard "Put it in crawl control, take your feet off the gas and the brake and just steer."

And, son of a bitch. it sounded like it would explode at any second, but my taco methodically moved through the entire thing without ever stopping. One shot and done.

Forget the noise. You have a great truck.
