I’ve not had a truck with storage areas under the rear seats or in the bed before.

I know the jack is under the 60 on the passenger side.

I don’t haul anything and it is a RWD so I won’t be going off pavement.

I have a long commute so I was thinking another set of clothes, little bag with some essentials/fire starter/water/protein bar.

Anything else y’all think are necessities?

Welcome to TW (what I'm suppose to say). Are you serious? (what I'm not suppose to say). Back on topic I'll say Oatmega protein bars, they'll surprise the hell out you!

Yes on all that. Would also add a tire plug kit. Slime makes a kit that comes with plugs and a tire inflator. Assuming that's what you mean by tire pump.

I've used the tire plug myself when I got a nail in the tread. Sealed it up perfectly. I recently came across a guy way up on a mountain in Utah in his parent's minivan with a puncture in one of the tires. He waved me down and asked for help changing the tire. Really, you can't change out a flat? No. And then we discovered he didn't have a spare anyways. Or a jack. Or a tire iron. My tire iron was for a different size lug nut so we couldn't get the wheel off. I was able to plug the hole for him. But he had to use my bike floor pump to pump it up. I've got an ARB compressor sitting here at home I haven't gotten around to installing. That has now moved up the to-do list. Took the kid around 1/2 hr to pump it up by hand. : )

If you live in a place with cold winters I'd add a blanket to your kit. A roadside kit with flares/reflective triangles, hi-vis vest etc is also wise to have. A tarp too to lay down for changing a tire. Rain poncho could be used for that. But I've used a tarp before with duct tape to cover my back window when someone smashed it.

I came from an amazing 6MT FJ and a fabulous 5th Gen 4Runner so the space in the Tacoma is precious to me as it seems so scarce.
    "My" plan:
I have a small molle rack coming for the rear of the center console where I will hang a tear-away 1st aid pack. Behind the left side rear seat will be a molle rack that will allow me to attach a bag that contains a tire plug kit, an electric air pump and some various spare bits like lug nuts. A smaller pouch will have some task-specific (or at least Tacoma-specific, like carrying a 13mm, 10mm, etc in an old Bug) tools, screwdriver with various bits and a leatherman as well as an old US fold-up shovel that has been with me for a long time. Some para-cord of course. I usually find a space for a deadblow hammer for stubborn wheel removal or any emergency clearancing.
Under the 60 on the passenger side, I will try to stow as much recovery stuff as I can, just various straps, a pair (or two) gloves, a wool surplus blanket and maybe some type of traction chain for the Winter. Under the 40, I have some bed cleats and other hold downs for the cargo but I hope to move that sort of stuff into a box in the bed. Probably stash a rain jacket in the 40 too and socks! :)
If this was one of my old VW's, I'd have a spare axle CV-to-CV stowed somewhere and possible a compete distributor or at least cap/points & rotor (yes I am that old) but I am new to Tacoma and I am not sure what I "need" for spares.
A new Fenix flashlight is in the center console but I will find space for a couple more lights.
I am looking for some good spots to stow a knife or two.
I usually have a snack in the glovebox but I never really put much thought into a "decent" snack/bar.
I need a space for a pruning saw as I am often needing to remove a fallen tree limb from my path in (or out) and my machete.
Space to stow things that turn money into noise and what feeds them too but that's not everyone's cup-o-tea.
The site has been a fantastic place for ideas and a resource for parts. There are some super-duper innovative folks here offering some great solutions for storage. TW totally rocks!

Works for me for carrying a few 'off the grid items', water-tight.

Wow! So nicely organized! I need to do the same with my gear box.

@9mmMike - I also enjoy turning money into noise, but recently had a boating accident and lost 87 noise makers.

Not bad suggestions from all posters so far.

@GOTSAND?18 - one prominent mall in the Birmingham metro area has been a hotspot for shootings the past two years.

I heard these new storage bins were really popular with Tacoma owners:
