Should I buy this tacoma or that tundra?

I've got the opportunity to buy a 2015 v6 tacoma DCLB 4x4 sr5 with 133k miles for $21,500 or a 2002 v8 tundra 4x4 sr5 with 75k miles for $10,000. Both are Arizona vehicles so I'm not worried about rust. I'm interested in the newer tacoma but I'm totally attracted to the lower mileage and price on the tundra. I've also been having a hard time finding double cab 4x4 tacomas with the long bed which is the only type of Tacoma I want. What do you guys think?

Well first off, it's your money so do what you want but that's pretty special if you found an 02 tundra with only 75k miles...clean title? Gas mileage may be a tad worse on the tundra but sounds like you could potentially get a really great truck and still have a nice wad of cash in your pocket at the end of the day. If you have any problems at all you only paid 10k vs 21k. Personally I don't care for the dclb, too long! Defeats the purpose of a Tacoma in my mind, might as well go full size and get a more cabable truck with a v8 just my 2¢

What are you going to be doing with the truck?
    Hauling and towing? -Tundra
    Commuting - Tacoma

I won't be towing much. I don't commute because I can walk to work. I do live in a remote part of Arizona and have to drive to town every week to get supplies. I would be using the truck mainly for that and driving to various camping spots and trailheads on the weekends. I do agree it seems like the tundra is a great deal and with that low mileage I might as well grab it while I can. I guess I can always get a newer tacoma later. I would like to upgrade either, nothing crazy but a small lift and maybe a bumper with a winch and newer tires.

Yeah. Its a good deal and will do everything that a tacoma can. I'd go for it

I agree that it depends a lot on what you plan on doing with the truck. However, for half the price your getting a more powerful, and less mileage truck that is more capable in every aspect other than maybe rock crawling. It is a lot older though so you might want to think about replacing a lot of the rubber components as they’re probably going to be deteriorating soon if they haven’t already. As well as you aren’t going to have nearly as much of the interior comforts as the taco. If all you plan on doing is commuting from point A-B or serious rock crawling, then I would say taco. Otherwise save your money and get the tundra.

Great point. The tundra will likely need more work than the newer tacoma. Depending on how remote you are, getting parts and having work done on the tuck could be an issue. I agree that the only downsides of the tundra is the size for off roading and the MPG

i would check the tundra real close ( a blind pig finds a truffle every now & again )

not a lot o miles & IF its been well taken care of

my vote is the Tundra..............maybe offer a lil less = good deal

the taco has twice as many miles

$$$$ will be spent on both yet im thinkin less on the Tundra

Hi guys, I ended up going with the tundra. The condition of the vehicle was immaculate besides some paint fading in the AZ sun. This is my fourth toyota after a 95 pickup, an 01tacoma and an 04 4runner which I now will be selling. Luckily the new tundra has the same v8 as the 4runner so I will be familiar with maintenance. Thanks guys! I guess I'll head over to the tundra forum!
