    Hey guys,

New to the scene and will be buying a Tacoma (most likely) by next Spring. I’m really wanting a TRD PRO in army green. Love its off road capability and look but not sold on the 45k price.....really Toyota? My research has found that the 3.5 is kinda underpowered, frames rust, seating position is car like and for a 6’ guy may be a pain on long trips. Am I missing anything? What’s the difference between the SR5 and Sport? Lastly, I live in the Ozarks and will certainly use it off road but also need to drive distances along with full utility of the truck. Thanks for any suggestions/info!

TRD Pro is a waste of money. Seat position is high to increase ground clearance. I'm 6'4" and have no issues with it. 3.5 isn't underpowered, it's the trans shift points that make it feel that way. 3rd gens haven't been affected by frame rust. Even if they are Toyota gives you coverage on that and it should be a non issue. SR5 is baseish and sport has some appearance stuff and possibly an electronic LSD. I know that's the case in the 2nd gen, not sure about 3rd. If I were to buy a 3rd gen it would be the TRD off road so I get all of the off road stuff that comes w/ it. If you are going to mod the hell out of it get an SR5 and do it your way. If you love the hood scoop get a sport.

You won’t be able to get a PRO in AG for MY 2021 just FYI. I’d consider a Trail or OR for what you described as your needs, both can be had in AG. And all the stuff you listed is just people who find things to complain about. 12 Tacomas in, all gens, all great including this gen.

You won't be able to get the PRO in green next year, but the good news is the army green comes to the rest of the model line. You don't wanna spend the money on the pro anyways. Getcha a TRD offroad in Army Green and you're all set.

I agree. So don't buy a Pro unless you are flush and just have to have all the toys. And are you the kind of guy who'll go to the woods and get pinstripes on your new truck day one, or keep it waxed and garaged a few years.

Unfortunately that is true, IF you live/drive in road salt country and don't properly maintain the frame. There is no reason for it to rust out if you'll make the effort to maintain it.

Bodies are different. Long test drives are your best bet to know how YOU fit, how you like the motor/trans combo, etc etc. Be jaded, not overcome with new car smell.

    You're welcome

You guys rock! Thanks so much. I truly appreciate it. The OR is in AG next year! That’s great news and really you’re right that’s all I need! I’m gonna drive a Bison and Ranger as well but not sure they can hold up with the reliability of the Taco.

Yeah no reason to spend $10k more for a pro. You can add a way better suspension and wheels to an OR and have a ton of money leftover in your pocket.

Hey guys! Thanks again for your advice. I drove a 2018 TRD OR in QS color 29k miles today that was customized with Fox shocks/lift. Winch and bumpers etc. Great looking but a little too off-road prepped for what I need. They wanted 42k! They wont get that I don’t think but at least I got to drive it. IMO: limited visibility and car like, plenty of power, amazing off-road travel, loud tires at how speed lol.
