So, I'm just a nerd for going red?

My GF's Dad is a Vet. I showed him my Wavian can yesterday, and he seemed to get a kick out of it. He walked into his garage and pulled out an old US army fuel can. They're pretty similar, aside from the filler cap and they're assembled a little differently.

BTW, I didn't think the spout was too bad. I fueled up his lawn tractor without spilling.

It really is a fine spout. With the included extension, fueling up the tacoma is really easy.

I didn't read all the post but I can tell you the color signifies what type of fuel or gas is in the container. Red for gasoline, Yellow for kerosene, Green for Diesel ect.... Black, no clue.

I get about 16-17MPG (I did a trip from Greenville, Me (topped up at the Inidian hill trading post)up through to ghost trains, then down to Umbazooksus lake camped a night there, then left there, headed north up to Clayton lake, over to 9mile airstrip campsite, then left there, headed to St Phampile, then headed up the Estcourt Rd. and camped at Big Black river campsite. I fueled up witht eh 12gallons (OVERFILLED I KNOW) I had in the 2 Spectre Jerry cans I had. it gave me a full tank. I then drove up Estcourt Rd. explored a few offshoots that went right up to the canadian border (some looked to go beyond it, I made sure Via GPS, that I did not cross). I then made my way the eastern route up by heading south down rocky brook rd, then up Lake Jones Pond Rd. back down Hafey Rd to the allegash Checkpoint (I had roughly 200 miles range according to the trip computer), aired up in Fort Kent, then drove to Ashland where I stopped at a shell station to fuel up.. I then drove the entire way stopping in bangor for some dinner and back home to Thomaston, Me on Rt1. was 440 miles.. I still had just under a 1/4 tank in Ashland... for me 12gallons seems like a good amount, but if I was headed into deep canada, or AK I would definitly bring at least 1 more jerry can with me..

If you watch Expedition Overland at almost all of their AK Mackenzie trail missisons were cut short due to fuel concerns... trail clearing (gas and oil) they came back the next time with 3 rigs with tons of fuel, and they still made a fuel run halfway through the clearing of the trail.

I’ve seen the Mackenzie trail videos. A big part of the issue was the idle fuel burn (which they said in one of the vids). I’d also say that trip is unlike what most people would be doing, especially solo.

There are definitely remote parts of AK and Canada but you are typically fine with 300 mile range. I aim for 4-500.

another thing to consider, you can run an electric chainsaw, which you could recharge via solar or while moving. Then you’d only need bar oil. I picked one up a while back and it’s been getting more use than my Stihl. I’ve been impressed by the power and battery life.

i have been looking at these, and saw some review vids... just wish rigid made one as I already have the 18 drill and 1/2" impact in my truck... but i may just get myself a reciprocating saw with a 6-8" DEMO blade on it..

some of htose electric chainsaws are sweet, but to drop 400-500 on a new saw... ouch... they are handy when you just want to jump out clear a few branches, or cut up some quick forewood from a down tree near the trail... James has a Ryobi chainsaw, and while not impressive in sounds (love a good tuned 2 stroke sound), it easily did 10 cuts through 5 inch logs getting us enough firewood for the night.

I’ve got the Milwaukee M18 chainsaw with 16” bar - its about $250-300 (tool only). It got put to work a few weeks ago and ran for hours on an 8ah battery. A pair of 8s or 12s (or a single with an hour break to recharge) would definitely get you through an entire day.

One thing I’ve really come to like is how quiet it is, both from being the guy using it and all the other people around.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

A silky saw is another great option if you are doing lighter work. I keep one in the truck at all times and many times it gets used instead of a chainsaw.

Don't you know that weighs 140 pounds and cannot be lifted by human people? And that when you set it back down it will easily puncture and kill you? Why do you hate plastic cans and all the good they do for humanity??
