So I've noticed that my Icon coilovers up front, particularly the front right, are leaking oil around the shaft and base of the shock. I figured hey, I can ride on a blown shock for a little while while I scrape up the dough to get them rebuilt. But in the last few days, the truck has been making a loud clunking noise in that front right corner when the suspension moves or when turning right. Checked the ball joints and uniball UCA and no obvious play, the tire is tight at all angles and the tie rods are nice and firm. Does anyone know if this is a common symptom of a blown shock? And if so, is it okay to drive on for a little longer? I'm afraid to drive the thing because of how loud it is

Time for a rebuild, the longer you wait the more expensive it will be when internal parts wear and need to be replaced.

Check your wheel bearings if you are getting noise only when turning a certain direction.

I plan on doing it very soon. Do you know if the loud clunking is a symptom of a blown coilover? The wheel bearings are brand new and tight

I don't know much about blown shocks but I imagine if it's leaked out most/all of it's oil, it can make some ugly noises indeed when it compresses

Once oil starts to leak I would make it a priority to rebuild or replace right away. How many miles on them btw?

Just curious because I know Icons and leaking are somewhat a common topic. I have Icons in the rear (2.0s) with over 30k on them and luckily no leaks yet. But I am looking to get them rebuilt soon since I know 30k is pushing it for a rebuild on any kind of performance shock/coilover.

Blown out shocks can make a clunking sound

Thank you all for the input. Just need to get 2 miles down the street for work for another few days before I can swap them out and don't want to risk killing anyone with a critical suspension failure. They've got probably 40-50k on them. Rears seem to be going strong but that front one has been leaking for a while, noise only started recently and has gotten much worse in the last day. I'll post a pic when I get a chance
