    I'd probably already be pissed enough to bust out the belt sander with a 40 belt on it and "start over" theres no finish in the world that would get all the way through that slab. Theres gotta be clean wood down there eventually, right?! Lol

    Those are wood planks, snap together, floating from home depot. Well, its not actually wood, its pressed saw dust with a wood looking vinyl top layer. I didn't go with the cheap cheap thin wood planks, these where middle of the road price wise. But wish I had used the fully plastic planks. These creek and squeak when walked on.

    Have you tried using heat gun on it maybe pull some of it out? Maybe he put cosmoline on it:rofl:

    Didn’t think about a heat gun but I’m pretty sure it’s not wax based. It’s some sort of varnish or something that’s really built up on it.

    Oh yeah there’s clean wood under there, it’s just a bitch to get to, and I’m trying to preserve the top as much as I can because it’s not perfectly flat and was all hand shaped. Around the tenons is tough because it soaked in through the joint itself which is why it appears to have penetrated more.
