I have interest in a canopy for a DCSB, however I would like to know if sleeping in the bed diagonal would even be an option.
If someone with a canopy on a DCSB in the Seattle area is willing to share their experience sleeping or has a few minutes for myself to check out their canopy it would be appreciated.

    I’ll buy the coffee.

I just built out my short bed and slept in it last night. I'm 6' tall, and diagonally I was just fine.

@vecdran has a SB sleeper setup. I think he posted pics around here somewhere?

I'm 6ft and large, and I can get away with sleeping diagonally. It's not a luxury experience, but it gets the job done and nothing beats waking up in the morning and immediately hitting a hiking trail without any real teardown. Not pictured are the foam mattress, Reflectix window covers, and bug netting for the tailgate and front window passthrough when it's warm enough. My memory foam mattress is only 3in and doesn't quite cut it, so I'll buy investing in a much thicker custom mattress next year. I also attached cargo netting to the ceiling to hold the aforementioned items, as well as dry out clothing. Boat dehumidifiers rounds out the setup.

I've literally never used a circular saw or applied carpet to something before, and I was able to pull off a pretty seamless job. If I can do it anyone with enough motivation can.

Hi @vecdran - I am curious about the 'bed' supporting structure you've built. How is it supported underneath? (I keep wanting to peek underneath in that picture!).

I assume it rests on the wheel-well bulges on the sides, yes? What about Front and middle? It looks like it may be foldable / easy removable... is this the case? Can you share a few pics of the build??
    Thanks!

Just some 2x4's cut to fit in the slots, 4 total. Nothing else besides that, and it only rests on the 2x4's. I traced a cardboard pattern to mark out the cut at the tailgate end, but once you get past that area it's straight.
Flats are 2 pieces of plywood (I figured stiffer than OSB) covered in marine grade carpet that is affixed with staples and 3M spray adhesive. I painted everything in several layers of Kilz primer for mildew resistance.

I'd get you more pictures but I just had knee surgery and not really in any shape to be moving the track and lugging around lumber!

    Edit:
Found a few more shots for you. Pre-painting, and finished setup. I now sleep with my head towards the tailgate and my feet propped up in the corner. Gains me the few extra inches I need to be a lot more comfortable. Lots of pillows. I always keep my ice axe under there to help retrieve things I bury way up towards the cab.

Basically the same as others the way it was designed with plywood and 2x6s. Added a 4ish foam mattress to it
I'm 5'10" and sleep diagonally, not 100% ideal but its about 90%. Head room is definitely limited

Quick note, 2x6 leaves gaps in the slots, doubled up 2x4's fits perfectly.

This is the dirtbag camping i like to see!! Im tired of seeing full apartment setups in the back of a truck haha

i had a DCSB and did this for about a year half. As a 6’2” person, it was a tight squeeze diagonally but I fit and I loved the lowkeyness of the setup.

i know have a DCLB and put my bed sleeping setup In during the winter because id rather catch first chair than pack up camp in single digits.

    keep on keeping on!
