Wouldn't have been made or created without my contributions. Not saying I did the hard work either....

Gotta love "telework" from the beach.

This one requires some explanation. I didn't make the ring but the stones. They were grown in a silicon carbide crystal grower that I helped build and modify to be able to grow completely pure silicon carbide crystals. High purity is the key to getting clear crystals that can be cut into gemstones that mimic diamonds. When we were doing the R&D we gave some of the failures to the company that cuts and facets the crystals to practice on. The green "emerald" is actually silicon carbide that is contaminated with nitrogen/air. The 2 clear stones are also silicon carbide.

I had the stone mounted into a ring for my wife. I joke that the green stone is actually one of the rarest gemstones on the planet since the contaminated were never sold to the public and once we got up to speed any crystal with color would have been rejected and destroyed. Silicon carbide gemstones are marketed under the name Moissanite. You can buy these gems online from a company called Charles and Colvard. https://www.charlesandcolvard.com/

It was an interesting side project since my company's main business is semiconductors.

    Things I’ve made x4
As a girl growing up my mother in law never made it past 4’11” she dreamt of an extra inch so she could tell everyone she was 5’ tall

One Christmas I made for her the “extra inch”

Gloria’s “extra inch” is a billet of aluminum, machined, ground and polished to +/-1.0005” that I checked for square, height and surface deviation on our CMM, I also made the crate from oak & black walnut scrap, the table Gloria’s “extra inch” is sitting on is a small bonsai table I made from more scrap black walnut and pinned together with birch dowels and this is resting on a garden bench that I built a number of years ago
