Yes! I love learning this stuff. After all it may help someone with their domestic cat antics and learning is always a good thing.

But on the flip side you interfered with the natural order of things. Changed the dynamic of the pride and may have altered the gene pool in ways that are counterproductive to the health of the species.

You are correct in that I did indeed alter the natural order of things. I had a choice as I watched his mother completely ignore him after birth (she had at the same time given birth to a stillborn female cub)....let him die, or distract the mother with food, which would have been absolutely impossible had she intended on caring for him, and save him and see where that would lead.
As for altering the gene pool....not so much. He was and would always remain a second tier lion in that pride and as such would never be given the opportunity to mate with one of the females, which is indeed how that played out.
The health of the species is, and will be impacted by one thing only, the continuing encroachment of the human species on their territory. The demise of the Asiatic lion is a perfect example of how human encroachment has created a severe bottleneck in the genetic health of that sub-species that will ultimately lead to its’ extinction. I was fortunate to have worked on that particular issue, among others, in India, working undercover, as well as working on education there and through their slow-as-molasses legislature.
Ahhh, the human species. It’s why I knew at an early age that I would always prefer to work with animals as opposed to people.
    Never regretted that decision.

Some humans blame humans for the extinction of other species. Well guess what? We are. Just as in the normal course of things other species have done the same.

Have you ever considered that this is the way it is supposed to be.

I've been uncertain whether this guy is an obvious troll or just an asshole, but it's becoming much more clear.
