Tailgate pull strap

Hey everyone looking for some advice, links, or pictures of some ideas for a strap to attach to the inside of the tailgate to pull it closed easier from the inside of the bed. I have a storage platform I sleep on and to reach out and down to close the tailgate at night is a bit of a stretch for me. I want to install a strap to the inside of the tailgate. Just looking for some ideas for the strap and mounting location/hardware. I’ve searched the forums and the internet and haven’t found much. I was thinking of using a pull strap from a 4Runner gate and upgrading hardware on one of the top center mounting screws for the tailgate panel. Thinking of getting a mountain hatch insert too, so something that would work well with that would be helpful. Thank you.

 

I used a couple of straps I already had and the existing tailgate hardware. I used a hot nail to make a hole in the straps.

 

Nicely done. What is that material on your tailgate?

 

It's a rubber utility runner. Mostly to make the tailgate less slippery.

How have those held up for you? Are the screws holding? Are they stripped out? Thanks.

 

The straps are a little dirtier, but other than that no issues so far.
