Installed Grillcraft... Had to move a sensor. What is it?

Installed my grillcraft today. There is a sensor that looks like it is a thermostat located in front of the radiator. It was wired into the bundle with the horns which I moved to the two open holes behind the battery. This sensor is now just hanging out by my master cylinder.

What does this sensor do? And can I put it there?

 

Do you have the out side temp. gauge in your truck ? it may be for that.

 

Ambient Temp Sensor for the overhead temp display. If you don't have it, the wiring is probably just there as most manufacturers will pre wire everything and leave connectors hanging around if they're not used.

 

Yeah I have the temp gauge overhead. I havent driven it yet, but I guess I'll know when my truck says its 95 degrees out.

 

If you are talking about that ting in the dead center of your radiator its the temp sensor. If you find a way to relocate let us know as the wires are short and it attaches via popping into a hole in the support. I didnt see where to put it and not have it loose.

 

When doing the grill swap, can't we just relocate the horns with some wire and connectors? Then the temp sensor can stay there.

 

Thats what I was thinking too. I drove it tonight for a while and the temp didnt seem to be effected though. Im gonna leave it for now and see what happens.

 

Mike, on 2009 and newer trucks the temp sensor is for both the air conditioning system and the overhead compass. That is why the 2008 and older overhead compass does not work in 2009+ vehicles. I'm not sure what effect will be caused by having your AC sensor in your engine compartment, but I imagine it will be hot in there during the summer. Maybe you are onto a new mod- extra chilly AC for hot climates!
