building one is definitely an option. a few different threads said they work but the end product cost was just lower than a commercially available one and can't hold as much pressure. if you have done stuff like it before, it shouldn't be a problem, but it's not something i'm familiar with. buying one was worth it for me.

If you want a few pointers, shoot me a PM. We definitely could have/should have taken a few more trails, but we were worried about overloading our schedule and not having time to explore. It's a good guide, but we could have done more.

Looks like you guys had a blast. We will be out there from the 22nd till thec 26th.

Currently fine tuning our schedule. Planning on hitting up the Alpine loop and Imogene.

Any advice on trails and sight seeing from Denver to Ouray?

I’ll keep that in mind. I plan on camping in my RTT for the entire 2 weeks. Any tips on finding camping spots?

Yes. The book I referenced is a big help. Each trail map has symbology for photo ops, hiking trails, camp spots, etc. The tent symbol on the map below refers to a good camp area, though not necessarily a dedicated camp site, so follow tread lightly laws when camping in these type areas. Some of our best camp spots were ones we found just winging it, though. The one for Mosquito Pass was one of our favorites. Not a designated spot, but definitely one of the best.

None of these trails will be open in December, FYI.

Dang I didn’t even think about that. Are they closed even if there is no snow?

Check with the FS for closures, but there will be snow.
