So around 1 week ago a buddy of mine ended up changing a bad fuel pump that went out on my 05 4.0 tacoma.

So fast forward a couple a days and I need to fill up. What I usually do is just let the pump run till it automatically clicks and call it good. When it clicked, I saw around 1/2 - 1 gallon of fuel just spilling from under. The next following days I would notice a strong fuel smell whenever I started the car or parked it.

The smell/leak would not continue if it was under 3/4 of a tank. Now im wondering, is there any type of gasket that should of been replaced or could something have been possible damaged during installation? I keep trying to get my buddy to look at it but he will be out of town for a couple months for a family emergency.
    Need your help!

Look at the filler neck hose. Maybe he forgot to tighten the clamps.

You shouldn’t be driving it with a gas leak. That’s a good way to burn your truck to the ground.

Something isn't connected correctly. It could be a clamping ring for the fuel pump to the vent or the filler neck... If it is leaking that bad it shouldn't be hard to find. Just don't use a lighter to look around. Get a good sealed flashlight. Or :bananadead:

There is a gasket on the giant fuel pump bucket collar, the pump goes in almost like an old Ball canning jar where there's a lid and a separate threaded ring that clamps it down, when I did my URD inline fuel filter and my fuel pump upgrade I pinched the gasket and got some codes for EVAP leak, had to pull the bed off again and grease the gasket before tightening it down to make sure it didn't pinch again.

I used a 2x4 and an old timing belt to make a strap wrench to tighten and loosen it.

Otherwise like other have said if you're not throwing codes it could be as simple as the filler neck or filler neck breather tube not having a clamp on correctly.

Crawl up under there and have a poke about, you may need to pull your splash gaurds back.
