If I'm skimming a thread, sometimes I don't have anything to add but i like what I'm seeing

OP is lamenting the lack of chatter, yet he has less than 1,000 posts and he's been here since 2012. :notsure:

Maybe gifs are also a culprit. Instead of actual dialog, people go for the quick laugh or troll. And with that:

I need one for way back when we’d tell new members looking for decals to PM you, and include some original poetry.

The only difference for me is with the like button I’m slightly less likely to quote a post and respond with a short/meaningless message like “lol” or “nice”. That wasn’t exactly contributing to the conversation in the first place.

If I have something to say I still post (like right now)

I believe that we need a "dislike" button, primarily because the OP needs my help in changing his mind...

At least the mods don't have a 'Smite' button.

    Or do they? :tinfoilhat:

The difference I noticed, is REP accumulated so quick you eventually maxed out. Maybe a "like" decay would be good, either comment and get likes or they begin to drop away haha

This thread makes me wonder if the ignore button should be more prominent.

I would assume that the Mods do have a "smite" button based on Google's definition:
