Has anyone mounted one of these in place of their cigarette lighter?

Forgot to take pictures, it would have been a good write up.

The body of the cig lighter slides out the front, there's two tabs to undo on the inside to pull out the metal cage, and then the rest came out after the main body was out. I had to do some googling to figure out how to pull it, but once I knew what I was looking for it was easy.

Slid the HU end of the usb cable in through the hole and up and out through the radio hole, put the lock washer on there and slid it down the cables and shoved two fingers in to hold it in place while I spun the USB receptacle side tight. I didn't need to epoxy mine and it hasn't rattled itself loose yet. I can't imagine it'd be hard to throw a few dabs of super glue or epoxy on the threads before you shove it in the hole. It's a lightweight piece of plastic, you don't need an entire tube of jb weld to hold it in place.

Taped over the plug that went into the cig lighter so I didn't accidentally stick a wire in it or something dumb like that and tucked everything away nicely.

Edit: mine came with a hard plastic nut, wasn't rubber like Boogies was *shrug*

No idea. If it's two separate lines coming out, then you will plug those into two separate ports on the back of the radio - that should be fine. If the two lines merge into one, I have no idea what that would do. By the way, here's that wonderful rubber nut you'll be working with:

That's a different brand than the one the OP posted, and the one I have. If yours doesn't have the squishy rubber nut, the OP definitely needs to go with that one. Good find.

By the way, would you post pics of your delicate little girly hands? :D

All of the pictures are identical, so I'd assume it's all from the same place.

And they're way too hairy to be considered delicate girly hands. Long, scrawny, and hairy.

Alright got it in! There was a very tight hole that my Barbie princess hands managed to fit through where I could awkwardly tighten that nut on the back of the receiver. I just had to remove the radio surround and the AC controls, nothing else. You just REALLY have to have small slim hands.

I did, I needed the spot where the OEM auxiliary & 3.5 is for a front/rear camera switch.

I removed it and left behind dash, used this extension and routed cables down to center console and drilled a hole on the passenger side and located it there.

    Works well.

I had a similar issue OP. I had a lightning cable plugged right into the back of the head unit. I replaced it with this and made a little cutout between the cig lighters. I wanted to keep both 12v sockets since I'll regularly have the fridge plugged into one and want the other open for charging other stuff.

Yep, threw mine in yesterday. I wish I had gotten the one with an AUX and USB, instead I got one with 2 USB outlets, thinking my radio had 2 inputs for it... Sadly it only had one, so now I have a hub with 2 usb ports, but only one works lol

I did this today. 05 Access Cab. Replaced the cigarette lighter that is on the driver’s side though. Appreciate the help people sharing their experiences got me through it. was a lot of work taking the truck apart and putting it back together. Was worth it in the end. Happy to post pic(s) tomorrow if anyone is interested. Thanks again for sharing!

Getting the dash apart is never that easy until you do it a few times.
I replaced one of the cig lighter sockets with one of those USB charger devices, not exactly the same as the OP was linking to tho.
If you use one like pictured, remove the cover!! it only gets in the way!

Which panel? The center where the cig lighter sockets are?

    For a 2005 MT:

Looks basically the same as ours, it wasn't all that hard to get behind that center panel.
I actually need to do ours again, add a second port and remove the dang cover from the first, it just gets in the way!

i have another dual usb socket that fits in the rectangle blank spot, I havent mounted yet, but I think this one is going on the left of the steering wheel, I have a bunch of empties over there and its a much easier spot to work with!
