Laser assessment of the frame yes, but haven't done it yet. I'll carefully consider the points you mentioned also. thanks

Good advice, I'm actually more worried about the rack. Good to know there's an easy way to rule it out. I'll give it a try. thanks

Yeah, might need to take a closer look at the boot to confirm, even if the reservoir is OK. Thanks for the tip

Had a buddy that traded in their dually to that same Gulf Freeway Autonation. Few months later the ATF came knocking on his door. They found the truck stuck in the middle of the Rio (looks like an attempted impromptu border crossing) with a full load in the bed. He says the agent sort of skipped over what it was exactly, but I have three guesses as to why it was the ATF that was doing the investigating.

The weird part was that my buddy was asked to show the bill of sale to prove that the truck was no longer his. The title was still registered in his name and nobody reported the truck missing/stolen. I said well since it's technically his he should claim it from the impound lot after the investigation then sell it right back to the same Autonation...

Toyota really didn't bother in taking a deep look at it. Replace all parts, end of story is what they recommended $$$.

The Toyota body shop is looking at this as a cash cow. Avoid them.

Your picture shows at least one LCA cam bolt had shifted position and flattened the tab. Chisel the tab upright again and take it to a shop to do a proper alignment. Looks like you have stock suspension with no lift. If correct alignment numbers can't be achieved, then your spindle aka knuckle is probably bent. The LCA cam bolts and spindle/knuckle are the two weak items in the suspension.

    IMG_20201012_142442s.jpg

The cam bolts are prone to shift with moderate impact, just because they're round. Some guys report their steering wheel (and toe) being thrown off-center after every off-roading trip just from the cam bolts shifting. That's why solutions like the Bison octagonal cams exist for off-roaders.

I've been more focused on the front suspension and really haven't worried about the rear, even though front and back was impacted equally. Haven't noticed anything abnormal in the rear though. Thanks for the heads up

When I went to the dealer for my rack, technically under warranty, they wanted to replace al 4 parts of the ps system for 2200 parts and labor.
It was just the rack that was broken, got a new one at 750 and had it installed for 400.
The rack can be gotten at mcgeorge Toyota for about 450 now, I think. I got mine from Camelback, put in the order and they shipped it to me.

Are you talking driving up a power line road or running the Baja, "off road?"

At what point does it make financial sense to simply disclose the damage, take the financial hit and trade it?

Here’s my honest opinion.. sell the truck, and then buy a different truck, but before you drive it, make sure you have insurance will
Cover any type of driving and location you are in. I wouldn’t throw money into your truck, especially if you think you might have a bent frame. Just sounds like a money pit.. financially it might be better to just take the hit now Instead of dumping a bunch of money into it.

Good news is the steering rack is 10x easier with a 2WD model.

I would be replacing that rack no matter what. It's damaged for sure, and that binding may cause an issue one day.

The power line roads in my area look like this. Is it considered easy or moderately difficult? :notsure:

I had an alignment done and drove for a year on mine, no further issues were found or presented themselves.
The out of whack alignment on his will chew through tires is about it, tires get expensive. If something is bent, it most likely will not align properly. If its just the rack, then alignment should be no issue. I seriously doubt the frame is bent, more than likely the lca, spindle or tie rod will be though.
