Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

Great modular design!

 

If anyone is feeling like selling a sleeping platform with drawers that'll fit a 2016 Tacoma 6ft bed I'm interested. NORCAL

 

Finishing touches,
glued on some carpet mat and outdoor RV rug. Kid tested, mother approved. Scotchgarded the carpet for weather/stink repellent.

 

On extended trips, the toolbox and cooler go into behind the front seats and a different third-section is installed. 3/4-inch, 9-ply birch cabinet-grade resting on the 9-inch high bed-lip. Flexes a little but doesn't need a support-board.

 

Definitely. Why should us short beds miss out on the fun. When I explore alone, I sleep at an angle in the bed, and can stretch out. My wife is about 5' so she can lay flat. If she comes along I open the bed (I have a couple fold out extensions for my platform for when I open the bed) and use my camping tarp to seal things up.

 

I took a quick trip to the Cleveland National Forest for some camping and wheeling. Pretty sketchy at some points but a ton of fun, and a couple notches up on my confidence scale. I had my phone filming from my a pillar ram mount and it was more stable then I was.

Thanks. That was my goal. It is super stable yet lightweight. I have lounge chair pads for cushions, and all of my storage containers fit perfectly underneath the platform. They all have a gasket also keeping the dirt out of the containers. I literally pulled everything out of the bed in 10 minutes today to clean it out.

 

Has anyone tried polyurethane in place of plywood to save weight? Researching it at the moment.

 

I looked into it and according to my research the poly actually weighed more.

3/4” poly was estimated at 4.3 lbs per sq ft whereas plywood was estimated at 2.3 lbs per sq ft.

Poly sheet 3/4x4x8=156lbs

Plywood 3/4x4x8=70lbs

it is possible to work with the hardness and do more with less (thickness) but at some point it gets brittle.

Feel free to check my numbers. I’m going off notes which may not be apples to apples with what you’re doing.

Yeah...Me too!!! I’m curious about HDPE though. I think that is what The Decked system uses. Maybe research that???

 

Will have to take a look! Weight is the enemy. Honestly I’m just tired of taking my platform out for single trail days and walking it to my apartment storage unit in multiple trips. Maybe I just need a garage

 

I hear ya! I leave mine in and loaded. I take it out normally at the end of camping season...but it takes time. Luckily I have a garage. The weight of the HDPE is 3.72lbs per sw ft. 3/4” 4’x8’ sheet is 119 lbs. though you might be able to go thinner it may not be enough to justify.

 

Changed a few things on my storage system just to make it look a little nicer.

Camping season ends?

Yeah, difference in potential HDPE weight savings doesn’t sound like it’s worth the hassle to also offset the sunk cost/time already spent.

 

Hahaha No...Camping Season never ends but Work Season gets in the way! Fortunately I do have a job that gives me one full month off and several other opportunities throughout the year to grab and go.

 

I did a half platform up front. It works great for my needs.

And here's as it stands today... Since my truck's a DCLB and I have a topper with the walk-in option, I have over 6' of length on the bunk to the right. Storage is throughout.



Lots of storage on the back and top of the tool cabinet. I will be building cabinetry up there eventually per the plan.
