Great post! I just did this today and it went flawlessly thanks to this. One question, does anyone know what that unused wire harness with the white plug on the end is for? Mine is an April 2005 build, wondering if they prewired for a backup camera or something. Photos attached.

I bought these for mine. Its a tight fit but i've read of people having bulbs pop out and this one definitely isnt going to pop out once you get it in. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L8DMHCD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thank you Hyland33 for the info, I've been looking all over for something that would fit and replace the original bulb. No idea why they keep making it hard to figure out a bulb conversion. :)

Looking for some info. Doesn’t pertain to the light bulb but I need the part that has the actual shift pattern. I think it’s a little plastic strip? But I also read the first part of this thread and I’m now thinking I need the whole “upper shift housing”. The previous owner punctured the plastic piece that displays the shift pattern. I haven’t been able to find a part number from the diagrams on the Toyota parts page. Any info would help. Also here’s a picture of what I’m talking about.

    "That was easy!"

    I just bought a 2008 Tacoma Pre-runner, and I'm replacing a bunch of burnt-out bulbs.

    Thank you @titus5 !

Is this the same bulb as a T10? I have some high-quality LEDS that I would like to try in this position if compatible.

Finally the stars aligned and I had nothing more important to do so I was able to do this today. I was even able to reuse the colored cap which was a good thing since the dealership didn’t have one the day I picked up the bulb.

2011 with 255,800 miles and mine just went out this week. I'd say it had a "long life" so i'm gonna replace with the OEM part #'s supplied in this thread.

    Thanks OP.

I replaced mine with a blue LED a couple years ago, but now it’s flickering so I’ll be doing this again soon! Thanks OP!

Hot tip! I didn’t even realize mine was burned out until seeing this. My question is on the opening above the display, a search brought me here. It’s empty like in this photo first photo. What is this? If I stick my finger down in there, it retracts like it’s a button but the cap/cover is missing.

    It is exactly that.

Pushing the button releases the lock on the shift lever, allowing you pull the transmission out of Park.

That is your park/shift brake interlock override. if needed you can flip the cover open and press the button to shift out of park without pressing the brake/don't have battery power, etc.

Thanks, working as expected, even without the missing button. Does anybody know if a replacement button is available separate from the rest of the component? I’m guessing that’s probably a longshot
