Hi. I own a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, 2 wheel drive, automatic transmission, 3.4L engine. My truck sat underwater, completely submerged except for the roof, for 2 days due to a flood we had here in Louisiana about a month ago. Decided instead of letting FEMA give me a couple thousand dollars I'm going to fix it myself. Cause I like my truck. I've removed the dash and interior, drained all fluids and replaced, got the water out of the engine, cleaned accessories under the hood and started it. It runs. I have so far one problem. The throttle body apparently. What's happening is this; With engine running I've found that there is much slack in the accelerator pedal where there was none before. The butterfly valve will open almost half way with no response in rpm's. The throttle body has the TPS mounted on it on the firewall side and what best I can tell a accelerator position sensor mounted on the other side towards the radiator side. This sensor has a electrical connector on it and a single cable running to the acc. pedal. And a dc motor in the bottom of the body. It also has a ECT switch in the dash. Can anyone tell me what could be my problem? And the proper names for these components. With a diagnostic computer hooked up to my truck the codes I get are P2102 and P2121. I am not a mechanic and do not have years of experience with electronics and all these sensors but I've got this far and as I said it is running, transmission is working along with the a/c, heat, and lights. I'm just having trouble understanding how the throttle body works electrically and the exact function of the dc motor. So far. Thanks, any info and advice would be much appreciated

@Running Board Man had his 1st submerged in a flood a couple years ago and brought it back to life. There's a big thread on it here somewhere.

Then he totaled it on the highway but that's another story

04 vs 95 are Different animals entirly I wouldn't try to save something as electronic as an 03 or 04 tacoma/01 or 02 4 runner

Without water my 01 4 runner gave me enough headaches

Op, the throttle body is entirely electronic, you probably just need to replace it

How it works is the throttle cable turns the shaft that goes to the tps that sends a signal to the ecu than the ecu send a signal to the servo motor in the tb to open the throttle valve

Theres a mechanical override that will open the throttle valve 1/3 when full throttle if all is functioning fine but the motor in the tb goes out you should have that 1/3 throttle

Also depending if you have stability control unplug a wheel speed sensor and see if you gain throttle again on my 4 runner I had air in the brakes so the throttle stopped working because the stability control system detected something wrong

same thing happened when a wheel speed sensor got wacked with a hammer... I decided to just leave it with the lights on and system disabled

Depending if you have the push button t case or not open up the actuators and re apply grease make sure to not fuck up the orientation of the plastic gear in the actuator if you end up doing it do this for the front diff actuator j shift or push button
