For me, hoppy beers sucked until I started using reverse osmosis water. Are you doing anything for your water treatment?

Had a few basic beers at the river this weekend. Tis the season.

 

I’ve been using RO for most of my homebrew career. I have an unlimited supply at work. I have Bru’n Water, but I’m usually lazy and just do the additions Brewfather tells me to add. It looks right on paper.

I think I have more of an issue with oxygen than anything. I’ve made some modifications to my fermonster to help with that now. I am planning a SN Celebration clone soon so that will be a good test.

 

Finally bottled up the Almond Cranberry Nut Brown Ale I brewed in August some time.
Being a "set it and forget it" type brewer, I don't really date anything of even use my gravity meter.
I just let it sit and let flavors develop. The yeast will do its thing.
Sometimes I'll keep a beer for up to 5 months in the secondary.

So I started with a simple nut brown recipe and during my steep, added almond flour, 1/2 cup and 3 oz of dried cranberries for the 5 gallon batch.
It smelled good bottling. Now I wait 3 more weeks.
I think its going to turn out pretty good.

 

What issues are you having with your hoppy beers? Oxygen reduction has just allowed me to enjoy the beers for longer without changing flavors over time.

Not worth $10.50 for 6 pints. Would of rather spent $8.50 on 6 pints of Miller (or $15 for 24x12oz. cans) but it’s different... definitely “more beer” flavor if you’re into that.

 

little to no hop aroma and flavor by the time they get to the keg. I think it’s a combo of oxygen and recipe that is disappointing me. Even for a WC style IPA I need to bump the whirlpool and dry hop charges up quite a bit.

 

Wet hop IPA while “brewing” up an apple pie graf. Really looking forward to this one.
