In the business world money changes hands, promises are made and people expect a company to respond in a reasonable amount of time that the promises they made. By his own statement he is already looking for problems form HIS customers before the release. Mat often lashes out at everybody just because he is upset with a few of them. I personally thought the tune with the starter stumble was his best work. I have no idea what happen when he changed it afterwards but it seems like tune was entirely rewritten and the transmission forgot it had a 5th gear. Logically it would seem that finishing the time and then introducing VF tune would have been a smoother transition but that's up to Mat. The business world will tell you many businesses fail that have great products because of the way they treat their customers and businesses success with lousy products because they run the company well. I just don't think a company will succeed being so combative with their customers. That is up to OVtune! Never treat all your customers badly because you are upset with a few of them, it's bad business. Thanks Mat, wish you the best and appreciate what you have done for the 3rd gen.

It was completely rewritten because of a couple people that like to seek out “issues”. Add in the fact that every truck reacts slightly differently, people have different mods, different driving styles and making 1 tune for all quickly becomes impossible.

vF is the way to go so people can get exactly what they want.

Contrary to popular belief, the customer isn’t ALWAYS right.

Thanks. We are doing the best we can.
We never treat all of our customers badly. Yes there are times I get really upset, and it may look like I lash out. The starter stumble files were a great example of this. They were beta files. For test purpose only. It turned into a huge dramatic issue on this forum. A lot development in those files did not make it into the base 2.0.
This forum judges and criticizes me, sometimes heavily, based on previous history. I am only doing the same thing. Yes I fully expect issues will pop up. It happens every single time. I honestly cannot get people to even test things and follow proper procedure. "This is a test file, please do not go on the forum talking about it." That rule is almost never followed.
Asa result, I just would rather not deal with the headaches of it all.

I have done the best I can to continually provide for this truck. I try to find every option, I try to make it work for everyone. I continually investigate new ideas, new tables, test new things.

It's a very time consuming process.
Yes we originally thought that we would have all version of 2.0 released back in 2019.
I just cannot understand why everyone just keeps skipping the multiple reasons why that didn't happen. Oh you promised it would be available December 2019. No we didn't. We expected to get it released at that time.
I have explained so many times why it didn't, and why it was delayed even further into 2020.
In my opinion the people who are complaining that they didn't get it in 2019 don't give one crap about ANY reason why it did not get released. Even if there was very good reasons for it.

I think a major safety issue alone (2019s, some 2018s, massive fuel pump recall, trucks shutting off on the highway) THAT reason alone is enough for me to stop a release. That is a serious safety problem, and what if the tune some how made it worse? The pumps had a design flaw from the beginning, and more power means more and and more fuel, what if it made the issue worse?

It was a chance I was not willing to take.
So we released a version of 2.0 that we are confident will be issue free because it is a base version, only certain things modified. And that was only well after the fuel pump recall was in play, with everyone (or at least vast majority) fully aware of it.

Finally, for everone. When a tune version is delayed, gets pulled, needs additional work, please don't just blame me. Look at toyota. It's almost always a result of a new issue, new ECU versions, new TSBs, etc. Something that takes all the work we didand makes us have to start over.

Toyota has updated their tunes on the ATs going on the 6th+ attempt, and they have every engineer, cheat sheet, etc at their disposal. Every time toyota releases an update, all my work on the previous version is completely obsolete. I literally have to start over from zero.
I've had to do this 5+ times.

I know people will call me a fanboy or whatever, but most of us appreciate the work you put into this. We understand things come up and there are reasons for delays, and why you do what you do. Thank you for putting the effort into this platform.

I think anyone who is looking at this product is a tech enthusiast and should be looking at it as such. Being a technician and working on cars every day I have found people are very whiney when it comes to vehicles and it's hard to explain mechanical tolerance can cause such a difference to how a vehicle performs.

Tuning is something that is very interesting to me. The functionality out of the program from what I understand is standalone ECM level without having to set everything up. So thank you for the work and I look forward to the update when it happens.

I think most of us have total respect and patience for something we could otherwise never create on our own. Not only are we investing in an immediate solution to the stock programming but also a ever-improving foundation (with VFTune) to support our own fine tuning. The custom base certainly varies though: just like our trucks seem to react differently to the same tune so are the expectations and value of each customer. I certainly appreciate and learn from all the folk on these threads. Even if it's a squeaky wheel I feel the intention is to better the product/services....even if that is naive.

    @OVTune

If it was not for the work you have done to make this truck drivable I would have told the Mothership to pound sand long ago and moved on to something else. As of now it drives fine - no bitch'n here. Keep up the good work. You made lemon aide from the lemons Toyota sold Gen3 owners. VFTuner software kicks ass!

I agree that the "Starter Stumble" tune works the best on my 2017. I'm recently running that again after a long stint on the most recent version. The combination of this tune with gear lock is a winner.

    Spot on.

Most people complain because they simply have no idea of what it's like to retro engineer software that wasn't created by yourself, let alone after multiple updates.

Please don't listen to the vocal minority, we all appreciate your work so far and looking forward to the final step! Personally would have sold my truck long ago if it wasn't for the tune.

Yep, agree, the "stumble" version, with exception of the stumble was perfect! I keep thinking about switching back and dealing with the stumble LOL The shift points were smooth and spot on no matter how hard you pushed the skinny pedal.

    Whats better about them?
Don't know if I want to drop more money on VF Tuner just to run them...

I too really like the stumble tune, but am 2.0F as I just don't know if there is any effect from the stumble, especially now that its winter again.

Really smart guys use words I don’t understand. They try to explain it, but most of it goes over my head. I’ll say that @Mooseditty17 has a file in his signature called the gift that keeps giving... or something like that. That tune is VERY well rounded. Holds gears without bogging (no extra torque converter slip). Stronger acceleration. Virtually no gear hunting and as good or better MPG to boot. That tune is the best my truck’s ever ran. Only reason I’m not still on it is because @PapaRee shared a similar tune, but based on premium fuel. Other than more advanced timing, he changed shift points and “stuff”. Basically in D mode, my truck has zero issues getting up to speed and holding. Literally have to back off the pedal instead of constantly stabbing. He also incorporated “tow” mode which I haven’t tried. Paparee’s tune did cut me back to about 19.5 MPG average while moose’s held 20.5. This is while NOT trying to drive for mileage.

It’s a lot to take in. I’d like to list the guys that are helping on this front but I don’t want to miss any. Best thing to do while we wait for Mat’s final is get on the thread and just cruise around. Other than the two above @ForceOfG is a badass. Pick one of the guys and use the arrows to see what they’re sharing in terms of knowledge and FILES!!
