Parked at home after work in my 07 tacoma tonight, and my brake lights were on when I got out of the truck. Turned it on and off a few times, pumped the brakes...only thing that turned them off was pulling the fuse. Anyone else ever have this problem? Suggestions for where I should start looking for the short?

    Cheers

I had that problem after slamming on the brake real hard, dealer said the switch was installed wrong and they fixed it. It happened after I got my truck fixed after a crash (they had to strip part of the interior).

Take a peek at the switch located on the brake pedal assembly,

Should be an adjustable brake switch under the dash and connected to the brake pedal . if you pull up on the brake pedal with your hand , do the lights go off ?
its the only switch on the brake pedal . Start diagnosing there .. what happens when the switch is activated ,,,what happens when the switch is de-activated

Agree with the above. Only 1 switch in the circuit that is actuated when you depress the pedal. Either out of adjustment, stuck or shorted.

Keep in mind, pressing the plunger on switch turns brake lights OFF. That one had me confused when I adjusted mine.
It's adjusted by making a quarter turn, then moving switch forward or backward to where it needs to be, then turn back quarter turn to lock into place.

Thanks alot guys! I got in there, wiggled the pedal and wires around, and something came unstuck. A little chunk of plastic fell out, which makes me think a mount is broken or something. I'll check it out some more in the next couple days, but in the meantime, the lights are working properly again!

Just did mine 07 tacoma. Getting stuck in park, replaced it and lights stayed on. Kept adjusting in and finally they work and stayed off when released. Thanks for the help.
