Hey guys, just wondering about the Cab Mount Chop (CMC).
Do you have to weld back a plate to seal it back up, or can I just leave it like that? Just wondering :notsure:

You need to weld the plate back. Not just for strength, but if you were to leave it open, it would fill with dirt/debris and would quickly rust out.

You can leave it open, a lot of people do with no ill effects. But it looks half-ass'd and a bit like a hack job.

Thanks guys! I was just wondering. When I do a CMC, I'll definitely weld a plate back on though. I'd also be concerned with rust and stuff.

I think you get even more clearance with these.

True, but do you really need it? I've seen guys fit 35s with a CMC just fine

There is a small chance while offroading that you could hit something on the exposed cmc, weakening the remaining mount.

Maybe I should settle with a Relocation. Since I'm planning on doing the cab mount chop soon, I might as well just do the entire relocation. Any suggestions?

I would not do that style of relocate. I have heard of two separate instances of it causing cracking on the frame. They’re a poor design. Get an aggressive cmc and call it good.

You don't have to weld a plate back on. The stock cab mount already has a big hole in it where dirt and mud can get trapped in it already. It does look like a hack job when you don't put a plate over it though. I had some premade plates but wish I did custom plates, because I could have had a deeper cut.

Also, I just read that the plates server another purpose other than just for looks. It actually strengthens the frame and prevents it from being damaged or bent since the original frame was "chopped" off.
