Does anyone know if a 1st gen short bed topper will work on a 2nd gen short bed?

The rear of the cab where the back window is is angled differently and the rear of the bed at the tailgate is also different. Depending on the topper will decide of the rear window area will be a problem or not but there's definitely going to be a big gap between the topper and the tailgate.

The beds are completely different dimensions (and material) between the 1st & 2nd gens, regardless of cab configuration.

Keep in mind that, aside from what the tape measure says, the bedside width and how the topper mounts to the truck are big factors. Any 2and or 3rd gen topper I've seen mounts to the bed rail system, which 1st gens lack.

Really. I'm happy you learned something new today. I didn't save the measurements, take pictures, or make a drawing of it. I measured at the top of the bed, inside to inside side to side and front to back, the measurements were really close. I didn't measure outside to outside anywhere and I'm positive the 2nd and 3rd gets are wider and longer.

I thought it was odd and I measured inside the beds of the two and they were very different from each other.

Happy to help, have a fantastic day.

I'm confused. Are you saying a 2nd gen topper will fit on a 1st gen or not? Asking for the OP.

I have a 1st gen LB topper on my 2nd gen ACLB, it is a little goofy on close inspection (sits narrow on the bedrails, and one of the latches won't catch fully since the topper is a little spread out), but it certainly fits okay. I'm still working on getting it to seal rain, but I hear that even with a correct topper this is still hard.

There's photos on TW and elsewhere of how ranger and 1st gen toppers look, and I can upload some of mine later if you'd like. Got the 1st gen topper for a good deal and it's hard to find them used in Alaska so I'm happy with it.

edit: I initially bought some bed-rail system based C clamps, thinking that was my only option but I was able to use the standard "drop through" stock bolts from the topper installer that fixed my front window and it works fine.

Couple problems here. The words "completely" and "fit" mean different things for different Taco owners.

    Goodnight, TW

It might sit on the rails, it might be able to mount with the C clamp mounts, the rear window probably won't seal, but I know it will look like ass.

Absolutely did not and would not say that. IF it's possible I'm sure it would take fabrication skills. How in the hell did you confuse that? LOL
