Would this be the same thing if it still stops but it takes longer than it used to?

I have two Delta 10" miter saws that are about 20-25 years old (when they were not made of plastic). The one on a portable stand seems to be lagging more than the mounted one. I figured from putting it in out of the truck and the bouncing while going down the road might have caused this. I guess I need to take a look at tearing it down for a good cleaning once I get back home.

I know something about this. I design power tools. Is it a corded tool?

I think it’s actually this exact one. Yes corded. Takes forever to stop the blade now. Used to stop within a second or so now I’d say it takes almost 10

There's separate coil windings on the motor that brake the motor when they are shorted together. This usually happens with a DPDT switch. As the contacts on the switch wear, the motor takes longer to stop.

How would one test the switch? Continuity, resistance...?

    Are these contacts replaceable?

Yeah we had the switch out when we were trying to fix it. There wasn’t anything visibly wrong with it but it was a pain in the ass to get off

I'd replace the switch. But you could check continuity across the brake coils in the motor just to rule out failed windings.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Joe probably had you quoted somewhere else and when he inserted the quotes from this thread it placed your quote here.

Somehow my multiquote was hanging onto a quote of yours and I didn’t notice.

I was gifted a dewalt miter saw a few days ago from a family member who used to a do a lot of carpentry. It is pretty dirty from sitting in his basement unused for ~10 years. It turns on, the blade spins properly but it does not slide back and forth unless forced to do so (yes I unlocked it). Any tips to bring this thing back to its former glory?
