I've been camping all my life and will still occasionally pack it in for a non vehicle accessible campsite and some good old sleeping on the ground or in a hammock. but the comfort level provided by a roof top tent cannot be matched by sleeping on the ground. That foam mattress pad is a game changer!

biggest reason I love a roof top tent: I'm 6'6" tall, my dog and I fit perfectly in my Smittybilt gen 2 tent, not so much in most ground tents.

Cap cost is not far from that, and at 6 foot 3 my 5 foot bed will not cut it.

Already have ground tents, been camping with the family for over 10 years, and this will be an upgrade. Cots and tents take up space in the bed of the truck.

sounds like your sense of what looks good is very different than others, good thing we all have a choice.

"Eyesore" is an opinion. I could say the same about your shell. It's all about what you want.
