Sitting around the house, stumbled across my old steering wheel/pedal combination, and thought I might buy a game and get back to driving again. I originally had a older NFS game that worked fantastic with my old machine, but "upgraded" to a F1 driving game that had a massive amount of latency with my old PC, so I put it away years ago. I built a new PC last year, so it should be good to go with anything on the market. At least the PC should be good to go...I might need to upgrade my wheel & pedal equipment...lol

As I was looking through Amazon for games, I noticed most of the NFS games were quite a few years old. I'm looking for something that's fairly recent, but my top requirement is something that provides realistic vehicle dynamics, so "arcade" games are out.

I think there might only be a few choices, either Microsoft's Forza Motorsport games or Project CARS 2. I haven't played, or even seen either in action. I heard Project Cars 2 is amazing, but it has some serious "glitches." There is a Project Cars 3 in development, but that probably isn't going to hit the market until next year at the earliest. The Forza games were developed for the X-Box consoles, but I think they also sell PC versions. Microsoft puts a lot of money into those, so they should be good.

When it comes to Forza games, which ones? Motorsport 7? Horizon 4? I think Motorsport takes place on tracks, and Horizon is set on the street.

    Thoughts?

I have been wanting to try iRacing. Apparently the simulator is incredibly realistic to the point Nascar drivers train on their consoles

In terms of realistic driving dynamics, nothing comes close to Live for Speed.

If you want track racing video game then Forza 7. Forza horizon is on the streets and is open world driving/missions.

The F1 2019 edition on steam is really good also but not quite simulator.

Dirt rally 2 is amazing if you enjoy rally racing. It is really hard to get started until you get a good idea of how to control the cars on different surfaces.

If you want a simulator then purchase an iracing subscription. You will start with a decent amount of cars and tracks. But just enough to get you into some races and build up your rookie license. It is extremely realistic and the incident manager, measures severity of contact, lose some control and other things like that will all affect your racing license. you will need to build up your racing license in order to be able to compete with other people There are also a lot of tracks and cars that will need to be purchased. This is nothing new, this has been the business model for a long time. You pretty much purposefully purchase a track or car when you want to start doing that form of racing.

I've been on I racing on and off for 8 years. I also have all the games above that I mentioned.

I am playing with my 8-year-old Logitech G27 wheel and pedals setup on my normal 27-in desktop computer monitor. You do not need anything special and you do not need a ridiculously fast computer.

There are lots of new member perks and benefits when you sign up for iRacing. Including 50% off a one year membership. Take a look into it

Most of the pro racing world are running their events online on iracing since the virus stopped all events. There were a couple of races last weekend, NASCAR, IMSA at Sebring, formula 1 did an exhibitional race on the F1 2019 game.
Nascar is doing there next six races, Indy is doing their next couple races, and emsa will also be running their upcoming season events in iracing.

Is the F1 2019 game worth getting for PS4? Thinking about picking it up mainly due to just enjoying watching F1.

Have you played other driving games or been a fan of them for a while?

If you enjoy watching the sport as a fan then it could be fun for you. I follow endurance racing so I enjoy racing on the same circuits and in the same cars that I get to see race. I go to races in person and watch them on TV. I grabbed the F1 2019 on steam sale to check it out and because I also love Codemaster studios racing games. I have a racing wheel so it is much more fun than just using a controller :).

I do love racing games although I think the last one I bought was NFS: Underground for the PS2 (I don't count MarioKart for the Switch as a real racing game). I just want to get to know the tracks they race really well. I think that would make watching races more enjoyable.

There is a big difference between NFS which is and arcade game and an actual racing game.Lol. F1 2019 wants to be close to simulation as possible, which is great. I bought it on sale on steam not to long ago, I haven't played it a whole bunch yet. But it is still enjoyable and the racing is good.

I play Dirt rally 2.0 and iRacing the most.

I think you will find some enjoyment out of it. Even if you only pick up the controller every now and then, it can still be fun. Racing at the same track for week 4 that F1 is running can be fun for sure.

I go to the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona every year. Come every January I make sure to turn on the computer and go race on the road course and join in lots Races while counting down the days till race weekend.

If you’ve never tried MudRunner or SnowRunner then they are overly-realistic. Just got into MudRunner and it’s annoyingly real

Download BeamNG.Drive if you’re really bored and have $24 laying around. It’s on steam and requires higher end hardware to play smoothly.

Definitely Snow Runner for an offroad non-racing simulation. It is equal parts excellent and frustrating in it's realism.

My favorite racing game by far is Wreckfest. The game engine is a beautiful balance between arcade and simulator. For the people who just want to get wild it allows them to, but at the exact same time people who want to try hard can do so. I have tons of hours in it and bought season pass one and two because I love it so much.

I think I started with Rad Racer on Nintendo. I raced online with the Papyrus NASCAR titles (1998-2003) then with the mods for NR2003 (Project Wildfire and Aero 88). Got out of it for a bit, but jumped back in with Forza Motorsport 3 and by the time FM4 came out I was organizing online races and leagues. After FM5, FM6, and Project CARS I switched over to PC. If I feel like some running some easy, relaxing laps I'll hop on Forza 7 with controller. If I feel like some serious racing, I'll set up my wheel and run an endurance event on PC2. Yes, it has quirks, but the day/night progression and dynamic weather make racing incredible. I was hyped for PC3 until they announced no fuel consumption or tire wear. That was a punch in the dick.

I also love rally, so I've made my way through most of the Dirt series, though I can live without the X-Games feel to most of them. I just got Dirt Rally 2.0 a couple of days ago and ran through a full championship last night. By far one of the most enjoyable racing games I've played in a while. It got me bit with the bug so bad that I'm going to be rebuilding my racing rig this weekend.
