First, I'm a new member (markchuck) joined moments ago and I'm trying to navigate through this system and don't know how to each a lot of members. My 2007 Tacoma Prerunner SR5 6 cyl with auto trans is pausing at speed under acceleration, pauses for only a few seconds but it has never done that before. Any suggestions. 87,620 miles. Trans is sealed and was resent flushed

Did it perform that way before flush? I would check fluid level and go from there.

    Welcome to the forum.
If the tranny was mainly OK and the problem started after the transmission flush, make sure the transmission fluid level is correct. Just because it was done, does not mean it was done right.

I have been racking my brain over this very question, did it occur before the flush and re-fill. I believe it did, but now it's more frequent. I also went to "google" and found that it could be a computer/02 sensor/throttle sensor sending the wrong info to the computer or perhaps a fuel injector issue. I don't have a computer monitor and the "check engine" light has not illuminated during the stall. I'll take to another reputable shop and have this shop run the diagnostics and we shall see. I'm hoping it's not the tranny as the truck only has 87,620 on the odo and has been treated gently since we purchased in new on 2007.

And of course the tranny is a sealed unit which is a pain in the arse to check the fluid level and while I have an excellent jack and jack stands, I'm no spring chicken and if I got under the Taco I don't know if I could pull my rather large arse upright again...

Can we use a different word than pause ?

    Does the transmission shift through all the gears ? forward , reverse , 1st , 2nd , 3rd , 4th , 5th ?
When you say the transmission pauses , what exactly does it do or doesnt do correctly .
Does the transmission have a delay between 4th and 5th gear ?
If you watch the tachometer , can you tell if the torque converter is functioning ?
    Got some reading here

Yes, it shifts perfectly. The stall does not occur from a full stop, when it occurs it occurs under acceleration when cruising on freeway when it is over-drive and I need to pass a slower moving vehicle or changing lanes, it is only a couple of seconds or so, it finds the right gear and accelerates strongly. It does not occur every day but when it does, well, it is a concern as you are like coasting for a few seconds till it finds the lower gear. Maybe it is fuel starvation or something.

I like your thoughts about a fuel or air issue .
Its a completely computer controlled truck . Auto zone scans for free .

Check all the vacuum hoses for dry rot and replace if necessary

The spark plugs, probably have 40k to 60k on them. The vacuum hoses appear visually okay, but looks can be deceiving and I'd need to run a pressure test on them. O'Reilly Auto Parts also will run a diagnostic test for free and I'll have that done this week. I guess it really needs a full tune-up. In my younger years I could do it, now, not so much. There is a local mechanic full service shop that comes highly recommended, so I'll be taking it there. Lot's cheaper than taking it to the Toyota Dealership were we purchased the Taco. You are correct, all computers now, it's not like the good ole days before fuel injection and electronic ignition. Back then a consumer could do their own service work.
