Went to bigger tires and the speedo is off. Don't really care, but I forgot to tell my wife... wondering if there is a fix other than mental math. Thanks

    How big did you go?

I'm running 265/75/16 and the difference is such that; if you're getting pulled over, you were probably speeding by multiples of the discrepancy.

Or, do the math and write it down for her.

Tech stream may be an option as well. I have it, but really haven't messed with it.

I've read that there are other devices out there, but didn't care enough about the difference enough to separate me from my money. :spending:

255/85r16 (33's) and things are off by about 5mph at 60. No biggie-especially when the alternative costs $230. I have other mods that make more sense to my Taco addled brain.

Ultra Gauge compensates for this . I run 33s and I’m off by 2-3 mph

Don't waste money on it unless you're going up to 35" to 37" tires. Speedometers have never been completely accurate and probably never will be. We just never knew it before GPS's. If you're within 2-3 mph @ 65 with new factory tires that is about as good as it gets. Even if you do somehow get it dialed in perfectly it's going to change as your tires wear down.

Your speedometer will vary 5% or more over time just due to tire wear. With new factory tires my truck would show me 2-3 mph SLOWER than my GPS. When I moved up to 265/75/16's those tires were 1" taller than factory and my speedometer was perfectly calibrated when those tires were new. But after about 35,000-40,000 miles they had worn down to the same diameter as the factory tires when they were new and my speedometer was once again slower than my GPS.

If you were to go up to a significantly larger 35" or 37" tire then you might see 5-7 mph difference. If the speedometer shows 65, you may well be doing 70-72 mph. But if you stay 33" or smaller it isn't enough to matter.

Among other things this is why traffic cops will almost always give you at least 5 mph at highway speeds. If the speed limit is 15 they may not give you 5. But if it is 70 they almost always do unless you're doing something else stupid. Even then the ticket will probably be for "wreckless driving" or some other offense other than speeding. They can do that if you're 10 mph under the speed limit. Most cops could care less if you're 5-10 over as long as you're doing it safely. It is aggressive drivers that are driving 10-15 mph faster than the flow of traffic they are after.
