I'd like to travel to Moosonee and Moose factory this 2021.

Just want to know if anyone is interested in this weekend event.

    Meeting place will be https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...fb!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d49.2736324!4d-81.6192637

    We will be driving hear
    https://www.moosecree.com/wetumroad/

depending on when the road opens up, we can grab a hotel room at Smooth rock falls or in Chocrane or just spend the night in the truck.. whatever works

    The basic plan
Saturday morning early around 8am start from the moose motel where there is fuel and restaurant for hot breakfast. Drive the winter road to Moosonee and Moosefactory. Drive around a bit to see the area ( which will just be snow covered) then take the drive back to the motel.

Its a long day so lunch will be at the side of the road. Everyone should be prepared to stay outside for one night just in case something happens. there are no parts there so anything happens we have to be ready to tow it back to Smooth Rock Falls.

This trip needs no modifications to any truck or car that wants to go but be aware when I took this trip years b4 the snow drifts can be somewhat big.

Again the date cannot be posted until the Wetum Winter Road is opened.
But we can plan for 2 weeks after the road is opened start this.
A couple of years ago when I did this trip we waited till Feburaury b4 the road opened up..

Please copy and paste the list if it interests you to go.

    thank you

If you take 1 more day you can get all the way to Attawapiskat. If you're going all that way you want to go the end of the road! Smooth Rock Falls to Attawapiskat is easily doable in a day.

Nice. Thank you. Where to stay when there is the problem.
We all can discuss it further when the time is neer -er.
but I personally don't what to camp again. Ill spend the night in the truck with it running if I have to but not a good experience the camping part.

In Attawapiskat I stayed at the White Wolf Lodge. There is also the Rose House. Both places are like boarding houses or hostels for people that come from out of town to provide a service. They don't get too many guests for one night. The stay there was really a neat part of the trip. And the only place I found out about either was on a Google map search for Attawapiskat. I called to reserve my spot just to make I didn't have sleep in the truck.

Keep in mind that the Wetum Road was closed early last year due to Covid and was only open to essential travel prior to that for a little while. Don’t be surprised if the road is only opened for locals this year if it gets built at all.

The Wetum Rd closed early, on March 19th. I did it March 6 and 7th with no restrictions other than a weather delay on the 7th. For the most up to date information check out the Wetum Rd Facebook group. And for the road to Attawapiskat, https://www.winterroadcompany.ca/ .

Interested, but not 100% sure if any of my camping equipment is up for the task of winter camping (never actually done winter camping other than a few nights in a log cabin)

You have to try late fall and work out your system from there. A down bag is probably the minimum

There are lots of neat parts of the Wetum Rd. A couple little hill climbs out of water crossings etc.

You can also try with 2 or 3 sleeping bags together. I also bought a cheap wool blanket just in case.

I am in for camping in the snow if this is for after December

    Your brave,
The only way I'll camp when the road opens up is if the moose motel is fully booked. Snowmobiles flood that place in the winter. As soon as the road opens I'll ask who's going to make reservations at or around Smooth Rock Falls weather that is a camping or motel accommodations...

I stayed at the Moose Motel. In the morning when I was leaving it was -20. That wouldn't be my favourite camping weather.
