I had 58” bars on the Thule rack system, and in my search for a faring I came across a set of 50” bars with fairing on eBay. I just installed them and they are the PERFECT size.

Whereas the 58” would stick over each side by 4”, the 50” are flush to the Thule mount. See pics for details. First picture is the 58” bars. I whacked my head twice on them in my first week of ownership, and I knew they had to go. I love how sleek they look and that fairing is just too nice!

Glad to see you've found a solution that works for you.

I've cut down too-wide bars for the exact width for several vehicles over the years. 58" v 50" is far from your only choice.

For my vehicles, I like a little overhang past the mount. Makes it easier camping, moving stuff, even getting the dry cleaning sometimes. I did one set flush many years ago -- not likely to do that again.

Different strokes for different folks. Again, I whacked my head twice getting in and wouldn’t want a passenger caught unaware and possibly getting hurt. There is also an aerodynamic advantage to shorter bars, as well as less noise. For what I will be throwing up there, it’s perfect. Dry cleaners? You’re lucky. They all went out of business around here.
