If Maaco quoted $900 figure at a quality shop double that.

I wouldnt trust Maaco to paint my doghouse. My buddy has used our local Maaco to fix a door dent, paint his front bumper skin twice and in all three cases, the paint didnt match. He was pissed every time but just let it go.

DO NOT DO MAACO. That place is only good for full repaint on a teenagers old used car.

Every Maaco is indepently owned and operated so some are better/ worse than others. I had a 2007 car painted at a certain Maaco a few years ago that had good online reviews. I went and talked to the owners and saw their guys' work- they parked their completed cars outside so you can pretty much walk the parking lot and see what kind of end product they put out and what "packages" were chosen. I went with them. So far, 3 years later, the paint still looks as good as the day I had it repainted. Of course there was some overpsray and and orange peel but overall for what I paid and what I got, I was very happy.

4 pages and not one person suggested the best and optimal solution:

Paint the rest of the truck with the rattle cans to match.

    thank me later.

I'd try YouTube. Or ask any buddies that might have experience.

I would hope that you're not insinuating that you cannot damage paint with a da buffer and the wrong compound.

This^^^. Wrong compound, wrong pad, wrong speed. Lack of experience. You’ll go right thru these newer super thin clear coats in the blink of eye even with a DA.

I've seen money paid for worse jobs. And honestly, it'll probably only bother you. Not many others would probably notice. If you did any type of vinyl decals, the contrast between the paint and vinyl would be so much, you probably couldn't tell either.

You can fix that and it will look great as long as 1) your basecoat is laid down nice and a good match 2) you put down enough clear (multiple coats). If you believe that to be true then 1) wet sand the area starting with 800 then follow up with 1000, 1500, 2000. At 2000 grit, you can polish that out with a good compound (say Meguires 105 or equivalent). You can go to 3000 grit if you want but once you get to 2000, you can lightly wet sand the entire door and compound the whole thing out. Follow up with something like Meguires 205 polish and then a top coat of wax. Done. I would try that before spending money at a shop.

You do all that then you'll have another problem. You'll need to wet sand and buff the rest of the truck to match that.

DA buffers with a clutch like the porter cable are generally idiot proof. That being said, we have a lot of idiots around.

It's worth a shot... As others have said, your fix doesn't look that bad .. But you know it's there and all that, so I get it.
Buy a cheap-o hand buffer, because I'm assuming you don't plan on making this any kind of a 'living' ...
Just remember, when buffing ... Go easy on it. You do not want to lean on it. You may have to go over it a few times. This is one of those times where you just want the weight of the tool do the work. (I know, it's vertical and close to upside-down, but you get my drift) ... Good luck, let us know how everything turns out..;)
