If the VIN starts with a 5 it was made in Texas, if it starts with a 3 it was made in Mexico.

Not sure if it's an indication of anything, or just how they split the trims on what is made where, but all the Pros (and I believe manuals overall as well) are exclusively assembled at the Texas plant.

USA...no manufacturing issues. Just well built, with limited visibility:annoyed:when rear head rest are in place.

The place of manufacture is also spelled out on the VIN sticker inside the drivers-side door.

Honestly I do not care if my Truck was built in Mexico or TX or any other place (mine came with a Baja Sticker and just got the usual problems with it rough idle parts falling off ) all I care is if something needs fixing get it done right at the Dealer and don,t tell me "Oh that is normal they all do that"

Texas is a strange place anyway except Austin.:rofl::rofl:

I did.... they’re the same. Both were uneventful from the start...
I’ve read previously the metrics are similar for both plants. Same parts, different assembly locations. I had read as well that there are some differences in assembly techniques though (automated/manual/etc).

Guanajuato Mexico: The first truck rolled off the production line on 6 February 2020. The plant has the capacity to produce 100,000 vehicles per year and employs 1,000 people.

Toyota has been building Tacoma trucks at its Baja California plant in Mexico since 2004. Last February, Toyota’s newer facility in Guanajuato Mexico began assembly of the Tacoma. Its production capacity for the Tacoma in Mexico will be about 266,000 per year. Last year, the automaker sold nearly 249,000 Tacoma pickup trucks in the United States, up 1.3%. The new Guanajuato factory was originally planned to make the popular Corolla, but the company shifted plans in 2017. Toyota's Mexico output is mainly destined for export to the United States and Canada, both of which have a free trade agreement with Mexico.

Anyone have a 2020 made in Guanajuato Mexico?

Tacoma purchased 5/31/2018, built in Mexico. Not one single problem.
Tundra purchased 1/27/2014, built in Texas. Headunit screen went out after 2 years of use, other than that... No problems.

When ordering my 2020, i demanded it built here in texas, and so far its been great. Back in the day i was in charge of our electronic circuit board production division where i worked. We use to ship the old failed boards to our plant in mexico for remanufacturing. You can't believe how many came back worse than sent down. The qc and overall workmanship was terrible...you needed 3 or 4 to get one that actually worked. I was sent down there a few times to troubleshoot their issues. Basically came down to many of their workers without the proper schooling, or training to service these boards. Needless to say our company was sold to a korean firm along with many changes. At any rate i swore i'd never buy an expensive item like a truck made down there.

I'd be shocked if anybody was able to demonstrate any conclusive difference between them.

2019 Pro Taco, so Texas built, 15,000 miles.

Sway bar endlink loose on delivery(clunking noise over bumps), found during permanent removal of sway bar.

Leaf Spring retaining bolt loose allowed leafs to shift and squeak pretty bad, Fixed when replaced with medium duty OME leaf springs.

Levels 4 and 5 of CC and MTS were inoperative, after 2 days at dealer was told faulty ABS module, being a Shop Foreman for an FCA dealer decided to look through the wiring myself and found a bad pin fit in the inline connector in the A-pillar for the CC/MTS controls, fixed it myself and never returned for that ABS module they ordered for me. Can’t bring myself to tell them that they messed up the diagnosis.

Other than that pretty trouble free.

I’ve not seen any evidence of an actual difference in quality. It’s all anecdotal evidence. There seems to be a bias against anything made south of the border. If a company is building something in Mexico and it’s always junk, that has more to do with the company than the workers. The Toyota plants are all operating under the same QC procedures.

My 2017 was TX built and it had some rattles and the rear diff whine. There were other little fit and finish things, like panels not lining up just right. Not a bad truck, but my Mexico built trucks had fewer annoyances. Just more anecdotal evidence for the fire.

The premise of the auto industry since the times of Henry Ford was that workers would make enough to buy the cars they produced. Across the U.S. and Europe, the arrival of an auto plant meant the creation of middle-class communities, with employees taking vacations, buying homes, cars, perhaps even cottages and boats. I wonder how many of the Toyota auto workers in Guanajuato can afford to buy a new Tacoma.
