Ocean Cleaning

Hey guys I am a new owner of a 3rd gen TRD Off Road. I was recently up in Oregon (Lincoln City) with a group of friends and decided to take my Tacoma on the beach and got some sweet drone footage and photos. Obviously the sand and seawater can be pretty bad so I made sure to go right after to wash it off and rinse the under part of the car. Headed back to Utah and the windows are a little scratchy due to the sand and i am worried still that not everything is clean as it should be. Any tips on cleaning when I get home or do you know of any places in Salt Lake that could help make sure the fun beach drive doesn’t cause any problems? thanks so much!

 

If sand is still hanging around, so too is the salt.
If you own a pressure washer I'd go home and do it all over again.
I've even gone so far in the past as too hook the washer to hot water, but that's just me.

Maybe hit it with some of this when you're all done. We used to use it on our skis.

Not endorsing this product. But something like it with wand attachments. Be sure to get inside frame & spray the hell out of it.

 

I use the ryobi attachment to clean the underbody. With the height of the truck, and multiple nozzles, you need a decent pressure washer for any underbody washer.

Yeah salt likes to stick use water and white vinegar 50/50 then wash it again with car soap

 

So I was in the ocean thursday and friday. will it still be pretty effective of getting it all off if i hit it late tonight when i’m home or tomorrow?

 

any tips on cleaning the inside? i vacuumed all the sand out but some water is hanging around on the inside of the doors and dash a little bit

 

While those undercarriage attachments are better than nothing, there are going to be a lot of nooks and crannies those won't get into. You're better off laying on your side and getting under there. Make sure to get into the frame channels.

 

Rule of thumb: once you take your truck onto beach sand you will never, ever ever ever get it all out. It's been ten years since I last took my truck onto a beach and I still find sand when I'm cleaning.

 

You should also pull your tires off and clean your front and rear brakes.

Clean the front disk brakes, calipers and rotors. Pull your rear drums off and clean your brakes, hardware and drums. You may need to re-lubricate your rear backing plate.

 

Marine product out there called Saltaway.. removes those salt deposits no problems . Use it here in Florida with complete succcess.

OCD much..... just kidding sand never all comes out get used to it as others have said multiple cleans on the underside and body of truck to get all the salt off.

Yea a little bit haha but i don’t think the sand being there bothers me but just not too familiar with cleaning it and want to be sure that nothing is gonna cause problems in the future

 

I hear ya I just spent 2hrs under my truck with 5 cans of fluid film to get ready for the snow and the brine shit they pour all over our streets.
