I love when they put "gaming" on something like memory lol. That SSD isn't special for gaming.

Did you already buy? If you're not in a rush and love team Blue why not wait for Rocket Lake sometime in early 2021? It should at least include PCI-E 4.0 and some other features that'll be nice to have in the near future.

If already bought, enjoy. Intel loves you ;)

Its 4000mhz RAM. $130 is about average for 16gb at those speeds. That kit is also Hynix DJR which is decent for OCing too if i remember right

I remember when people thought $500 on a graphics card was crazy and $1000 was reserved for crazy one off dual GPU cards about ten years later. Now we have the 3090 lol.

Already bought. There is always a balance of waiting for the next best thing to come Versus it's time to upgrade. This has gone on for the last 30 years or more. By them time you wait for that next best thing another next best thing is on the horizon.

I guess I have been burned too many times in the past to give AMD my support any more. They were a very shitty company in the past that put out too many crappy quality products that I unfortunately bought. They were pretty much bankrupt until Intel gave them more life just to keep from being a monopoly.

They might have recovered by now, OK they have since both consoles use them but for me they will no longer get my dollars.

I did stop by BB tonight and purchased a Corsair H100i 240mm liquid cooled CPU cooler with LED lights and 2 120mm LED fans.

I have a similar Corsair one currently and would rather keep it on the CPU/motherboard and move it to another computer I have along with the RAM.

I agree "gaming" doesn't mean anything. Look at the specs.

Anyone heard any reliable info on 3090 restocks?
Time to put my 1080 to bed.

Apparently the 3080 20gb got cancelled?

Think they're going to re-release with this new fabled cheaper memory and 7nm?

Stationed overseas in the late 90's...

I remember having to use the telephone like a radio to talk to family stateside.

First you would call some 20 digit number, hang up, the service would then call you back, then you call the stateside number, if it went through and they answered you had to hope they didn't hang up as there was a delay and they would hear themselves talk, then you would hear them on the "echo" then you would talk hear yourself repeated and then they heard your "echo" had to implement radio protocol say your peace and finish with "over".

All fair. It's your money. I had really good experiences with my first builds that were all AMDs in the mid 2000s. Really, in my experience, their shitty period was all around stretching the Phenom 2 too long and bulldozer being a hot mess. I completely skipped Bulldozer from AMD and ran a 3770K and 6700K in that time period. Zen 1 had some issues for me but everything since then has been rock solid.

Intel did nothing for AMD this time around other than get extremely complacent and greedy. Intel never thought AMD could get a Ryzen like part to market, let alone get Zen based technology past Core based stuff. That's where we are for now. I'm sure Intel will get back in the game soon. I think they need to sell their foundaries like AMD did. Seems like no one leading the market right now owns their own production line.

I got mine last week and I was first in line for that card from a large Canadian retailer.

I was also in line at EVGA from the morning of launch and just got a notification on Friday to order a card. I passed, I'm not here to be that guy who buys and resells for profit like an ass hole, but from that experience I wouldn't count on seeing stock on Newegg or anyone online be common until after Christmas.

I've enjoyed AMD since the 486 days up until the Phenom II. My last two builds were Intel. Sadly, i don't see myself building anything new in the near future. Never thought I'd say that. But I'll most likely purchase an AMD laptop over Intel in the future.

I just found it weird he said Intel gave them something. Intel has given AMD basically nothing. In fact, the whole who had the rights to IA32 and a pile of the instruction sets that came out after MMX was only settled when Intel fucked up and brought out IA64 while AMD developed the winning AMD64. In fact, to this day, in your BIOS boot you'll find AMD64 compatibility listed instead of the common X86-64 nomenclature that's used today.

As for AMD being a second source of chips that's true. IBM was smart enough to demand a second source of chips for their IBM-PC based systems. Hence why AMD and Cyrix were granted licenses. However the moment IBM started to lose significant IBM-PC compatable marketshare Intel tried their hardest to become a monopoly. Again, the only thing that stopped that from happening was Intel dropping a complete turd trying to force the world into 64 bit computing with the abysmal IA64/Itanium based designs.

I'll happily buy Intel if they can space themselves out from AMD again. For now though, AMD is the value kind particularly if you do any sort of actual productive work with your machine.

I mean Intel definitely drove early IBM-PC design and AMD and Cyrix would basically just copy them, but by early in the Pentium era Intel had blocked AMD and Cyrix from producing clones of their chips. From that point on AMD was on their own doing clean room design, which is why the first Athlon X2 was so much faster than the first Core branded designs.

However AMD bloated with their acquisition of ATI and a bunch of foundries. Almost went bankrupt over trying to literally be Intel and nVidia all in one company. That's when the designs really became bad. It didn't help that Intel hit a home run around the same time with their first Sandy Bridge designs that used QPI. After that, basically until Ryzen, AMD was low end garbage for sure. Intel fanbois always forget though that AMD has been competitive and pushing Intel, sometimes winning as often as losing, for most of their X86 history. If AMD ever fails, Intel will fail from the sheer lack of innovation that will occur. Someone else will come up with something to beat up Intel and in that time Intel won't have the leverage to buy themselves into that game again.
