The auto high beam feature seems to be a passive aggressive attempt on Toyota's part to get me into road rage fights.

Wow that sounds like a real pita.
I thought that the auto dim interior lights/auto headlights was a pita enough.

It does but since I live in CO and roads are not flat it picks up headlights late sometimes, figured if I can add more sensitivity it might help.

Mine sometimes work perfectly, other times they wait long enough until the oncoming traffic is sure I’m an asshole and then turn off as I’m about to manually flip them off

Thought I’d necromance this thread because I digging through the manual researching auto headlights and found this goofy cheat code to temporarily reduce sensitivity of the sensor.
Doesn’t help op but may help someone else

    Yeah
I came across that myself when I first got my truck and try as I might, following the directions as precise as possible, I never got it to work.

I gave up on auto high beams a long time ago…

Can automatic highbeam dimming be disabled? 2023 suddenly dimming on dark roads, don't recall it doing so previously. Headed 2300 miles to my son's rural farm and need the danged lights to work.

Never mind, found the button. Another pita to disable. Yank switch and cap wires I guess.

When I needed a place to put the switch for my front camera, I knew I would never ever use the Auto Headlight "feature", made sure it was off and stuffed the thing under the dash, never to be seen again. In my opinion adding options like this, especially not fully flushed out options comes under the category of just because you can doesn't mean you should. I mean, being able to manually flick a level on your steering column doesn't require a whole lot of coordination. Remember when we all had to search for that damned foot switch on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal to dim your lights.

    PITA?
It’s a detent switch that stays; set and forget it, no need to be angry at it.

Reading all this makes me happy I have a 2016 trd that didn't come standard with all that stupid electrical crap. I'm happy with my manual seats, manual rear window. no power seat? No problem.
Those headlight auto features sound like a nightmare. And I don't have to deal with stupid sensors beeping at me. My mother in law has a Yukon with the auto headlights. Have no idea how to toggle anything. It'll also beep at me when I'm like 5ft away from something. GMC sure is something...

It's a nice feature when it works. I've found that there need to be ideal conditions like a straight and level road. Another huge variable that affects performance is the brightness of the oncoming headlights. This system would work great...if every single vehicle had super bright LED's. It works well with those, but if the oncoming car has some dim halogens, they're getting blinded lol.

It’s just a button like the rest of the sensors. You leave them off if you don’t want to use them

I have auto headlights on the 2022 Taco and 2011 Chrysler T&C.
Chrysler's react faster to the oncoming vehicles. Both will turn off if they light up reflective road signs.

    I like the feature.

I like them in theory, but found they don’t work well enough in my area due to all of the hills and dips. Somewhere in the stickied crashnburn80 headlight thread, he shared a video of led brights on a European 2010 Audi newer import, Volvo I think. The brights are a row of leds that sense oncoming traffic and turn off only the emitters that would blind the other vehicle as it passes. That is a really cool system to see in action.
I’ll try and find the video and edit in the link.
