i get it. But food is food. And some years you get lucky with a bigger deer and some years it’s something that’s barely legal.

I think people make the comments because they like to quote the rules they know and are used to in their area. I was recently called out for baiting. Well, baiting is legal where I hunt. So I use feeders, and I bait the road. I also use buck bombs and such. All legal in Texas; and until they make it illegal, I will continue to hunt that way.

Furthering that point, I just recently learned that the county I hunt in; doesn't have an antler restriction. So, if I see a 4 point with antlers inside the ears, legally I'm good to shoot it.

I’ve baited for years. It’s legal. If I don’t bait, they’re just going to the neighbors property who baits as well

So I am thinking of buying a range finder. I'm searching through Amazon and took a look at Bass Pro Shop today. I saw a Vortex model with Red LCD readout. It made it easier to read.

Anyone have recommendations from personal experience. Any models to shy away from. Thx.

I’ve got a Nikon I’ve had for years, I like it, bought it before Vortex started taking over everything. Vortex makes good products

Dad just bought his first range finder, he went with the Bushnell prime 1300 and it seems to be a decent unit, the Nikon pro staff model has good reviews for the price as well.

I got a Leica 2400R for my 40th from my wife. Only been using it a few months but it’s been excellent so far.

I'm thinking about a vortex impact because I am happy with the rest of my vortex stuff, and I think I could live without the red readout. my uncle has a Leica Rangemaster that is nice but also $700

I'm getting some new truck binos and I think I've narrowed it down to these two. I just want a relatively inexpensive pair that I can quickly eyeball deer from my truck. Any comments and/or suggestions? Would like to keep it around $100.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Do Vortex rangefinders have the same warranty as their scopes? I had a Bushnell for a few years and it crapped out on me. That was a couple hundred bucks in the trash.

Opening morning was awful. We got 6 inches over night and didn’t stop snowing until 4pm. Made about a mile walk through it and decided to go home.

went out yesterday morning with my wife on a new place we got permission on. What an absolute deer haven. Tucked from the wind and snow. Tons of feed. Perfect isolation.

turned up probably 30 deer in the morning. Only 3 forks. 2 of which my wife called sporks they were so small. Went home mid day to do some last minute house stuff. I went back out solo and found one spork again. Glasses the neighboring property and found the deer...E07CD9D7-F6F9-466E-A3E2-5DB76ABC6644.jpg

Turned up a group of 3 bucks. 1 maybe 2 forks and 1 what looks like a 3x3. Hard to tell on them being that far. The young bucks are chasing does already. Pumped to get back out there. Unfortunately Halloween is Saturday so I only get a morning hunt. Might ask the land owner if I can camp out there Friday night for an evening and morning hunt.
