I installed an RCI transfer case skid plate and in the process was required to remove two significantly engineered plastc baffles/plugs that plugged inside of the box frame. So now the box part of the frame is open to the elements. Considering the Tacoma's supposed propensity for frame rust should I be worried about this? Any other's who installed the x-fer case plate try to put these back in?

I'm sure you'll be fine, there's many openings in the frame already.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I put my tcase skid on, then had the frame recall work done where they added the plugs. They managed to put the cross-member back on and leave the plugs in place, just needed 1/4" of washers to space it lower on both sides where it bolted through bottom of frame.

I was able to trim my frame plugs and re-install them after adding the transfer skid.
