There’s a fire here in SoCal right next to stables with our horse in it. I might have to end up up towing a 2/3 horse trailer with 1 horse in it. Is that even possible with a 2nd gen? The end point is about 28 miles away

If that is your only option.....then it will work.

Go easy, allow extra space for acceleration and braking.

If you only have bumper hitch, then find a different tow vehicle. Use a Class IV hitch.

If you have the hitch ball and and fits the trailer then it will work, keep the shifter in 4 and drive cautiously. Save them ponies :)

Note for anyone else reading this:

Towing horses with our trucks isn’t a great idea, but it is possible when it’s an emergency (like your whole fucking world is on fire).

True, I don't recommend anyone who isn't used to dealing with equestrian trailers and loading and unloading horses to deal with it in general, proper tow pig or no.

I've towed them before, just not with the truck. We normally use our suburban but it isn't working atm.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, it'll work. The v6 is pretty good honestly, i've seen people tow way more with way less.

The trailers are stout as a brick shithouse cause horses are heavy and concentrate their weight on four small hooves, so the floors have to be stout too. This one is designed for 3 horses he said, so the fucker will be heavy

Why isn't it just a single horse? What makes towing horses different with a 1/2 ton than ours in this scenario?

What's the issue towing a horse trailer with a tacoma? Are horse trailers that heavy? Not sure what I am missing.

You should be fine , also be aware of the very strong wind gusts in the area . Wind gusts in this area reported over 80 mph

A 3 horse trailer can be upwards of 4,000+ lbs and with a thoroughbred quarter horse, it is easily over 6,000. It’s not my trailer so I really have no idea how heavy it really is all I know is that its either a 2 or 3 horse trailer and the owner is disgustingly rich so I’m sure it’s fully loaded with a dressing room and everything you could possibly have

You will be fine. Use your gears, dont be afraid to rev the motor out accelerating or decelerating (engine brake to help your brakes stay cool ESPECIALLY if you dont have the taco setup for the electric brakes the trailer likely has).

Worst case. Have someone hop on the horse n ride it like it was intended....

Thank you everyone for the help, I’m on standby atm cause the Santa Ana winds are pushing the fire away from the horses. But when the winds die down it’s possible the fire can backtrack (happened in 2007 and burned down the barn where the horse is). Firefighters have the road blocked but are letting horse owners go to grab em. All the horses are loaded up so if I get the word I just hook up and go.
