So back in 2017 I paid 28k for my access cab Tacoma sr5 brand new with 4 miles on the odometer straight from the dealer with full warranty. Just found someone selling the same exact 2017 truck 3 years later with nearly 70k miles. For you guessed it, 28k lol. Insane and more insane how I'm seeing these actually sell.

    UPDATE: 11/6/20
    He lowered the price lol

This guys also claiming it has a tow package. I'm sure the 4cylinder sr5 does not come with a tow package. The picture even shows there is no connection for break lights.

That is crazy. The tacomas and 4runners have some of the best resale value in my area.

We all know the pandemic has caused inflated used car prices, especially pick up trucks. There’s a few threads already on this.

I brought my 2020 back in for it's first oil change last month.
I was offered $5k more than I paid for it right there. For some reason....and I can't figure out why. The Tacos hold an incredible resale value.

If I didn't have a color matched topper, racks, air suspension, seat covers, sliders, etc, on it. I would have gladly taken them up on the offer. I have more than that into it.

But they only had one Tundra on the entire lot and not a package I wanted. Nothing even used......at the state's biggest Toyota Dealership.
So I couldn't even roll it into anything. And being a company owned vehicle, it all just becomes a hassle. We were going to phase out the others and make the Tacoma a fleet vehicle. Yeah.....LOL, It just sits in the garage.

I'm giving it to my kid, who comes on full time in less than 2 months. He thinks "it's cool". It will make a nice run around sales vehicle...that's about it.
I'm going back to a F-150. I really like the concept of the Tacoma. like the ride, like the size. But I can't get past certain things like the transmission. it has got better with driving it, but still can't do cruise at 70 in anything but flat ground. It's 2020.........I should just put it in drive and go. Like any other vehicle I've owned. The slightest hill and it's throwing fits. Even at 65....or 55.

We'll keep it and maintain it, but it's a lesson learned. Last one. No more.

When I was looking for my truck, I was finding 2018 used ones at the same price. They are hard to come by in Chattanooga TN and the tri-state area. The weekend I bought mine, they sold all 5 of the 2020s they had on the lot. Can’t get a new 20 in town now.

Get ready for some strange transmission characteristics in the F150 also. That 10 speed is one quirky transmission. Lots of jerky shifting in 1-5 gears. Also makes a lot of strange noises. I just traded a 2018 that I drove for 2.5 years. Make sure you read up on it and do a long test drive before purchasing.

I happen to own a few Fords for my business. As well as Ram. The Tacoma was to be my personal work/personal vehicle. A little work...a little travel.

I don't like the Ram at all, but the Fords, in different configurations 6 and 8 cyl. No ecoboost) all easily outperform the Tacoma, which sits unused in the garage. Especially now that winter is coming and salt is being deployed.

And what pisses me off most is that I really want to like the Tacoma. Really looked forward to getting it. And here I can't even drive it to my other home in the mountains because it feels like it's going to grenade the tranny. I look at that Tacoma, realize what it could have been and get depressed. It's a bad ass looking truck and it fits so well. I've taken it on a few camping trips and my wife enjoys driving it because of it's size, where she doesn't like any other of our work trucks.
I have taken many other vehicles on the same trip many times over 17 years to my other home. The day I drove the Tacoma, was the day I wasn't sure I was going to make it back. Even had a dealer tech 900 miles away from my primary home drive with me and say, "These are great little trucks, but they ain't made for mountains or towing." I had to have it checked out mid-trip because I wasn't sure about it making an 1800 mile round trip.

    So now I know......
The Tacoma Auto Transmission is not Auto at all.
Always use ECT upon start up.
    S4 if you are towing.
S5 if you are on a long straight highway stretch.
Never use D unless you are going downhill with the wind at your back.
Did I mention use the ECT every time you get in the truck?

I don't know. But everything from a econo shit box to a Ram loaded with a trailer, I've made that trip dozens of times and just put it in D and went. No problems, no worries, not doing anything special or extra. Why can't the Tacoma do what every other vehicle can do?

I like the Tacoma as it's concept, but I don't love it. I think it's got plenty of power and I like what it's designed to be.
But there's parts of it that are laughable as far as that transmission.
And now I'll hear about all the members here that claim to drive Formula 1 race cars as daily drivers telling me I should appreciate a transmission more complicated that the Space Shuttle and EVERYONE else has got it wrong..
Or how, "Oh...it must be Friday".
Or how I've never really driven a real truck.
"So....you didn't test drive it first?" I test drove it in a flat area three times and it wasn't until I hit the mountains did I realize how poorly it functioned.
Or the often innocently claim of...."I've never noticed a problem."

    Or the best....
"It's great once you totally rebuild the gears and add Pedal Commander and upgrade...this....and this....."

Is it really asking too much to just put a vehicle in D and just go? For F#*&# sake. It's 2020. It seems like every other vehicle can do it.

I hate to be that guy, but it's the dirty little secret we're not supposed to talk about or criticize here. I get that. So......we are keeping our truck as a sales vehicle and for my wife to run and get the mail. Do a little camping out of due to lack of inventory all over through all makes. I'm just trying to make the best of it now.
I will never be a fan or join the cult, but will enjoy seeing what people do with these. I won't invest another dime in mine. Especially for a tool to get the work done, which is how i look at mine.... but appreciate what you guys do with yours.

Just go on carvana.com and search for tacomas. There is not a single used 3rd gen near me for under 33k.

Toyota should have put the 8speed Camry auto trans (has mt mode, too) in the 3rd gen. Camry 3.5L has more power (301hp) and same torque.

I have two vehicles (Pilot and Z Roadster with 3.5's, so similar.) No doubt the Taco's motor has all the power one would need.
I have no problem with the power generated by Toyota's choice of motor in the Tacoma.
    I don't expect a rocket. Don't need a rocketship.
I have all the faith in the 3.5 that is in my truck.

Did you buy that truck with all that stuff bolted to it? Or added it after the maiden voyage?

I get so confused everytime I see your posts about how much you hate the taco. Its been going on for awhile, and I'm not sure why you are still here.

Your experience is much different than mine. I do live it flat Texas, but I tow a camper all across America a few times a year. And even that doesn't sound nearly as bad as what you claim your truck does.

I like my "coma"... but, if someone offers to buy it from me, I would say yes and continue my search for that Mid 70's Ford F250 Highboy.
    just sayin...
